Coco Themed Dinner
This week, we prepared traditional Mexican dishes for our Coco Themed Dinner in honor of the Mexican holiday, Dia de los Muertos or Day of the Dead. Dia de los Muertos plays a central role in the movie, Coco. It is a traditional Mexican holiday in which people gather to remember, celebrate, and connect with the spirits of their loved ones who have passed. It is a beautiful tradition in Mexican culture, and I feel Coco does a great job of representing the holiday. I had two goals in mind with our Coco Themed Dinner. First, I wanted to expose the kids to Mexican cuisine they had not experienced…

EPCOT Avocado Margarita Recipe
This week, I’m sharing my copycat recipe for the famous EPCOT Avocado Margarita! EPCOT’s Avocado Margarita can be found at La Cava del Tequila, a small tequila bar located within the Mexico Pavilion pyramid. This concoction is a favorite among parkgoers challenging themselves to “Drink Around the World” in World Showcase. (Check out our Eating and Drinking Around the World adventure HERE!) Using my past bartending knowledge, I challenged myself to come up with my own recipe for EPCOTs’ Avocado Margarita to enjoy during our Coco Themed Dinner. Crockpot Pumpkin, Sausage, and Apple Stew
This Crockpot Pumpkin, Sausage, and Apple Stew is one of my favorite recipes to make this time of year. It incorporates some of the best flavors of fall, and it’s a great way to warm up as the weather gets colder. I also love that this stew comes together in the crockpot, making preparation a breeze on busy days. You can even combine your ingredients in the crockpot the night before, store in the refrigerator, and turn on the heat when you’re ready to get cooking! I created this Crockpot Pumpkin, Sausage, and Apple Stew to serve at our annual Hocus Pocus Viewing Party. You can check out our themed…

Hocus Pocus Dinner Party
For our final Halloween Themed Dinner, we had a Hocus Pocus Dinner Party with our close friends! If you’ve been following this blog, you know that Halloween is a BIG DEAL in our household. The crème de la crème, the pièce de résistance, our absolute FAVORITE Halloween movie of all time – HOCUS POCUS! Every year, we invite my friends over for a Hocus Pocus Dinner Party and enjoy a Halloween-themed meal during the movie. We really outdid ourselves this year, so I decided to share our menu…

Beetlejuice Themed Dinner
It’s time for another Halloween-themed dinner, and this time we’re dining with the ghost with the most – Beetlejuice! Beetlejuice is a Halloween staple in our household, and a movie we find ourselves quoting all year round. There are a lot of great food scenes in this movie, so it was a lot of fun creating this menu for our Beetlejuice Themed Dinner! It’s Showtime! To kick things off for our Beetlejuice Themed Dinner, I served some roasted roaches as an appetizer. Don’t worry – they aren’t REALLY roasted roaches. These delicious morsels are actually cheese stuffed dates wrapped in bacon. I found the idea and recipe over at Castellon’s…

Ghostbusters Themed Dinner
It’s not Halloween in our household until we’ve watched Ghostbusters, and this year we enjoyed a special themed dinner to celebrate! One of my favorite Halloween memories was the year we all dressed up as Ghostbuster characters for trick-or-treating. Eric even constructed an Ecto-1 wagon for Gemma to ride along in while we jammed to the Ghostbusters theme all night. We had a blast! For this reason, Ghostbusters will always be a Halloween staple in our household. For our Ghostbusters Themed Dinner, I wanted to embrace some quintessential dishes from New York City that appear in the film. I also wanted to create some “slimy” and “marshmallow-y” treats inspired by…

Casper Brunch and a Movie
Today, I’m sharing our Casper Themed Brunch to celebrate National Pancake Day on September 26th! We typically enjoy fun themed dinners in our house, but to take advantage of this pancake-loving holiday, I switched things up and planned a brunch menu instead! And because now is the time to celebrate all things Halloween in our house, I decided to give our brunch a fun Halloween twist while we enjoyed the movie, Casper! What does Casper and brunch have to do with each other, you ask? In one of my favorite scenes from the film, Casper whips up an INCREDIBLE breakfast for his new housemates on their first morning together. You…
