Plan the Perfect May the Fourth Star Wars Party

Many people simply go about their daily lives when May 4th rolls around.  But those in the know realize this is one of the best springtime holidays – National Star Wars Day!  Fellow Star Wars fans observe the day by casting each other knowing glances while uttering, “May the Fourth be with you.”  Seeing as how we love any excuse to throw a party in our house (and we are big time Star Wars fans) we always throw a Star Wars Party.  And with these ideas, you too can plan the perfect May the Fourth Star Wars Party!

1. Create Star Wars Inspired Snacks and Treats

No May the Fourth Party is complete without some Star Wars snacks and treats.  You can get as wild and creative as you want!  If you need some help, Pinterest is a great source to find fun Star Wars-themed recipes. For our party, we made a BB8 cheeseball as an appetizer.  Be sure to serve up some blue milk as well!  This could be as simple as adding a few drops of blue food coloring to your regular store-bought milk, or you could try one of these fun recipes from Pinterest!

As a nod to Walt Disney World’s Galaxy’s Edge, we tried making our very own Ronto Wraps.  We really enjoyed these delicious wraps on our last visit to Hollywood Studios, so it was a lot of fun to recreate the recipe at home!  We based our Ronto Wrap recipe on the copycat instructions from Disney Food Blog.  I have to say, the results were great!  We definitely felt a little closer to Galaxy’s Edge while enjoying our wraps.

For our sweet treat, I decided to whip up some Baby Yoda cookies.  When The Mandalorian first premiered, fans were thrilled to discover that their classic angel cookie cutters looked an awful lot like the adorable character, Baby Yoda.  And they were right!  I used our angel cookie cutter (which is older than me!) to make our Baby Yoda shaped cookies, then decorated them with colored icing and chocolate chips for the eyes.  While not professional level decorating, I was pretty happy with how they turned out!

2. Even Better…Whip Up Some Recipes from Walt Disney World Galaxy’s Edge Cookbook!

Visiting Galaxy’s Edge is every Star Wars fan’s dream come true!  This themed area in Walt Disney World’s Hollywood Studios allows visitors to fully immerse themselves in Star Wars stories.  And one of my favorite things about this land is the unique food and drink offerings!  That is why I am thrilled that Galaxy’s Edge has its very own official cookbook, so guests can prepare some of their favorite recipes at home!  You can order yourself a copy on Amazon by clicking HERE!

This cookbook not only contains great Star Wars-themed recipes, but it also has a lot of story and character to it.  Each recipe contains an informal excerpt from intergalactic gourmet chef – Strono “Cookie” Tuggs.  He has traveled to the far corners of the galaxy to collect these recipes from Mandalore, Naboo, Black Spire Outpost, and beyond.  These amusing excerpts help build a story within the cookbook and create authenticity to these treasured Star Wars recipes.

On our last trip to Galaxy’s Edge, we tried the Endorian Tip Yip from Docking Bay 7.  We had a lot of fun using this cookbook to recreate the dish at home!  We also prepared the recipes for the Gurreck Gravy and Bantha Chai and look forward to trying the Spicy Mandalorian Stew and Polystarch Portion Bread next!

3. Jam to a Star Wars Playlist

Get everyone at your May the Fourth Star Wars Party into the spirit with your favorite Star Wars tunes!  You can listen to your favorite Star Wars movie soundtracks on Spotify or Youtube.  You can also find the soundtrack for Galaxy’s Edge on Youtube HERE!  This playlist features a lot of the entertaining tracks you will hear DJ Rex showcasing in Oga’s Cantina.

Be sure to check out our full review of Oga’s Cantina for your next visit to Batuu!

4. Play a Star Wars Game

Playing a Star Wars themed game or working on a Star Wars puzzle is another great way to celebrate May the Fourth.  We purchased Sabacc on a visit to Galaxy’s Edge.  Sabacc is the card game made famous by Han Solo in Disney’s Solo: A Star Wars Story.  Luckily, you don’t need to make the hyperspace jump over to Galaxy’s Edge to find this card game – you can order it online from Amazon by clicking HERE!

Another game we like to play as part of our May the Fourth Party is Star Fluxx.  This hilarious card game starts out simple as you draw one card and play one card.  But the addition of New Rule cards and ever-changing Goal cards keeps players on their toes!  Star Fluxx isn’t an official Star Wars game, but it’s filled with space-themed humor and references to the films as well as other galactic movies and shows such as Star Trek, Alien, and 2001 Space Odyssey.

You can find Star Fluxx on Amazon HERE!

5. Dress for the Part!

Being a Star Wars-loving family, we are fortunate to have an arsenal of Star Wars costumes at our disposal.  Dressing up in our favorite costumes and gear makes the day so much more fun, especially for the kiddos!

Me dressed as Leia and Gemma as a baby dressed as an Ewok
Aiden in her galaxy's edge rebel jacket, ezra dressed as baby yoda, and gemma in her rey costume
aiden dressed as captain phasma, eric as han solo, me and leia, and gemma as an ewok

6. Reenact Your Favorite Movie Scenes

Got any lightsabers laying around the house?  Now is the time to dig those out as well as any other Star Wars memorabilia to put yourselves in the movies!  The kids love having lightsaber battles and it’s a great way for them to burn off energy before settling in for a movie.

7. Put Yourself in the Movies

Now that you’re all dressed up in your favorite Star Wars gear, take some fun photos!  By using PicCollage, you can edit yourself or your family members to look like they are in the Star Wars films.  Simply use the Cutout feature on the photo of your choice to edit out the background, then add your photo to a Star Wars background.  While not professional quality photoshop, it is fun to play around with and good for some laughs.  Plus, the app is free!

8. Make Some Star Wars Arts and Crafts

Get crafty with some fun Star Wars projects for your May the Fourth Party!  Pinterest is full of great ideas.  Here are some fun ones to try yourself!

9. Settle in for Your Favorite Star Wars Flick

Disney+ to the rescue!  You can find all the Star Wars movies on Disney+ as well as a lot of other Star Wars content such as Clone Wars, Star Wars Rebels, and The Mandalorian!  I let my four-year-old pick the movie this year, and she wanted to watch “the one where Boba Fett gets eaten!”  Return of the Jedi it was!

I hope you have enjoyed these ideas to help you throw the best May the Fourth Star Wars Party this year!
