Star Wars Birthday Party

Our little Star Wars fan turned three, and we celebrated with a galactic birthday party!

Watching our son meet Darth Vader at Walt Disney World inspired this Star Wars birthday party theme.  Seeing him interact with the intimidating Sith lord and channel his own little dark side had me absolutely beaming.  It’s my favorite memory from our trip!

Due to much encouragement from me, Ezra has grown into a big fan of Darth Vader and the Galactic Empire.  Don’t get me wrong, he loves the good guys too!  But there’s just something so awesome about the bad guys of Star Wars, so that was the focus for his birthday party.

Star Wars Décor

The décor for Ezra’s Star Wars birthday party was a mix of simple DIYs and savvy Amazon and Party City purchases.

Amazon Purchases

I ordered our tablecloth from Amazon, which featured Ezra’s favorite ships like X-wings, TIE fighters, and the Millenium Falcon.

The light up ‘Star Wars’ sign also came from Amazon.  This is typically mounted on the wall in his Star Wars-themed room, but I thought it would make a nice centerpiece for the table.

Party City Finds

We headed to Party City for our plates and napkins, which Ezra picked out himself!  These are also available on Amazon, but we found they were cheaper at Party City.

We also picked up our Darth Vader balloon arrangement there!

DIY Projects

I decided to DIY our paper cups because I specifically wanted Darth Vader ones.  So, I picked up black paper cups from Party City and used silver sharpie to draw his iconic mask on each one.  I loved how they turned out!

I also got crafty with some of our balloons.  In my mind, I wanted a row of balloons hanging from the ceiling representing Darth Vader flanked by stormtroopers.  So, I drew stormtrooper masks on four white balloons and Darth Vader’s mask on a single black balloon.

Unfortunately, when I hung them from the ceiling, they all wanted to face different directions!  But Ezra got a kick out of them, and they are still hanging out in our living room a week later.

My final DIY project was our Darth Vader sign which read, “Join the Dark Side – We Have Cake!”  I thought it was a cute way to tie the birthday party and Star Wars together.

I used Canva to create the image for our sign, then had it printed and framed.  You can download the free design below!  I recommend having it printed professionally to get a good quality image.

Star Wars Birthday Party Food

No Star Wars birthday would be complete without some themed party food!

Star Wars Fruit Platter

To kick things off, I made a Star Wars fruit platter complete with a watermelon Death Star!  I used the tip of a vegetable peeler to carve out the details of my Death Star.

On the platter, I spread out blueberries and TIE fighter-shaped watermelon slices I made with an awesome cookie cutter I found at a thrift store!

Mandalorian Goldfish

Target had these awesome Goldfish Crackers themed to The Mandalorian, so I picked up a couple bags for the party.  Since we were expecting little ones to be in attendance, I knew these would be a hit!

Stormtrooper Cheeseball

Cheeseballs have been my go-to for many of our themed dinners, so it’s no surprise I used one as my artistic medium once again.  This time, I made a stormtrooper cheeseball!

I used a favorite recipe from Build Your Bite to make the cheeseball.  But instead of topping it with nuts, I left the outside bare so I could create a stormtrooper face with poppy seeds.

I created a stencil by printing off a stormtooper image to fit the cheeseball, then traced it on parchment paper.  Then, I used an exacto knife to cut out the image.  Once my stencil was ready, I smoothed it over the cheeseball and filled the empty spaces with poppy seeds.  My first stencil attempt was a disaster, but the second go-around was a success!

Death Star Pizzas

You gotta have pizza at a birthday party!  But to make it *Star Wars* I made mini Death Star pizzas.  I got the idea to make these mini English muffin pizzas from Valyas Taste of Home.  But rather than top them with mini pepperonis, I used large pepperonis and sliced them into the various shapes on the Death Star.

This was certainly a labor of love, but my son instantly recognized the “fully operational” battle station in pizza form!

Galactic Kool Aid Cubes

For a fun birthday party beverage, I made Kool Aid ice cubes using Star Wars molds from Amazon.  Our guests could choose between cherry Darth Vaders or blue raspberry stormtroopers – or both!

When the ice cubes were dropped in Sprite, the color and flavor of the drink changed as they melted!

Darth Vader Chocolate Cake

I decided to bake a chocolate cake with chocolate frosting for Ezra’s Star Wars birthday party.  To make the cake, I used a recipe from Creations by Kara.  Let me tell you, this recipe was a winner!

Right before serving, I added a stencil of Darth Vader to the top of the cake and dusted it with powdered sugar.  Ok, thoroughly smothered the cake with powdered sugar is a more accurate statement – I was in a hurry!  My technique was a bit sloppy; I’ll admit.  But I didn’t care too much because the cake recipe was so good.

Favors

To get everyone involved in the Star Wars fun, I made Yoda ears to wear during the birthday party.  I got the idea and tutorial from This Simple Home.  They looked pretty darn cute on our guests!

Since we were having a pool party, I also passed out inflatable lightsabers for the kids.  Well, let’s be honest, the adults had plenty of fun with them too!

The final component for our Star Wars birthday/pool party was our inflatable Millennium Falcon.  This is the coolest pool floaty ever in my opinion, and the kids had a blast utilizing it for their adventures.  Lots of fun was had by all!

I hope you enjoyed our Star Wars birthday theme and found inspiration for your own Star Wars party.  May the Force be with you!
