Practical Magic Themed Dinner
Grab your broomsticks, because we’re getting the coven together for a Practical Magic themed dinner! Practical Magic is the story of the Owens family of modern-day witches. The family faces closed-minded prejudice in their small Massachusetts town, as well as a curse that causes any man an Owens woman falls in love with to die. Throughout the movie, Owens sisters Sally and Gillian utilize “practical magic” to cast spells, perform a resurrection, and fight supernatural forces. Practical Magic has a charming and cozy autumn aesthetic perfect for this time of year. And with a long-awaited sequel arriving this fall, it seemed like the perfect time to plan a Practical Magic…

Scream Themed Dinner
What’s your favorite scary movie? Because tonight we’re heading to Woodsboro, where the phone rings off the hook, and dinner is an utter scream. So, lock your doors and check the closets, because tonight we’re sharing our Scream themed dinner! Scream is my ultimate favorite scary movie – you could say Ghostface is my Ghost-fave (this terrible pun was inspired by numerous typos while composing this article). I love the whodunnit aspect of the movie, which keeps you guessing who’s behind the mask. Plus, the film is full of 90s nostalgia (RIP video rental stores 😢). With Halloween around the corner, I decided it was the perfect time to create…

KPop Demon Hunters Themed Dinner
KPop Demon Hunters fandom has been sweeping the nation, and my family is no exception. The story, characters, and (best of all) music have made this one of our favorite films to enjoy together. So, I created a KPop Demon Hunters themed dinner to take our next movie night up a notch. I’ll be honest, when I first saw Netflix advertise this movie, I thought the concept seemed silly. Pop idols slaying demons? I think I’ll pass. But when I learned adults my age were obsessing over the movie as much as the kids, we had to see what the fuss was about. And boy, was I wrong about dismissing…

How to Throw a Star Wars Life Day Party
This week, we combined our love of Star Wars and Christmas by throwing a Life Day party! What is Life Day, you ask? Well, Star Wars super fans can tell you that Life Day is a Wookiee holiday first introduced in the 1978 Star Wars Holiday Special. The special follows Chewbacca and Han Solo, as they attempt to get Chewy home in time for the holiday while evading the Galactic Empire. The Star Wars Holiday Special was very poorly received and was never rebroadcast or released on video. But the special did introduce audiences to Boba Fett, and I think that’s a pretty big win! While I understand the criticisms…

Disney Villain Dinner Party
As the air cools and the days get shorter, there’s no doubt spooky season is approaching. So, to celebrate this seasonal change, we hosted a dinner party inspired by the dark side of Disney – the dastardly villains! We love a good Disney villain. They are fascinating and complex characters that captivate us with their personalities and ambitions. Sometimes, we may even relate to these despicable characters and find ourselves rooting for them! All the while knowing, ultimately, good will triumph and evil will get their comeuppance. So, to pay tribute to some of our favorite Disney baddies, we created a Disney Villain Dinner Party. Each menu item was directly…

Little Shop of Horrors Themed Dinner
This week’s themed dinner was inspired by the horror comedy musical – Little Shop of Horrors! While it’s still very much the summer season, come August, we can’t help but get excited for Halloween. So, to dip our toes in the spooky season while still respecting these sunshiny days, I aspired to create a themed dinner that touched on both seasons. A “Summerween” film, if you’ve jumped on that bandwagon. And then it hit me – Little Shop of Horrors! The film’s flower shop setting embodies summer, while the terrifying carnivorous plant delivers the creepy component. I don’t know about you, but it makes perfect sense to me! The catchy…

It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown – Themed Dinner
We capped off our Halloween dinner series with a menu inspired by It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown! It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown has been a timeless Halloween tradition since it first aired in 1966. Based on the comic strip Peanuts, this animated special follows Charlie Brown and his friends as they celebrate Halloween. However, Linus chooses to forgo his friends’ traditional celebrations, and instead spends Halloween waiting in a pumpkin patch for the mythical Great Pumpkin. Our Great Pumpkin dinner was inspired by Charlie Brown and his friends as well as Linus’s “sincere” pumpkin patch! * This post contains affiliate links. This means, if you click a link…

Hocus Pocus Charcuterie Board
We can’t get enough of the Sanderson Sisters! They are the reigning queens of Halloween in our household. So, this week, we paid tribute to our favorite trio of witches with a Hocus Pocus charcuterie board! If you’ve been following this blog, you know Halloween is a big deal for my family. And Hocus Pocus tops the chart of our favorite Halloween movies. We love the movie so much; we host an annual Hocus Pocus viewing party with our friends! So, when I first saw the Hocus Pocus charcuterie board trend circulating the internet – I had to get in on the fun! In this post, we’ll share how we…

Raya and the Last Dragon Themed Dinner
This week, we sampled Southeast Asian cuisine during our Raya and the Last Dragon themed dinner! Raya and the Last Dragon takes place in the fictional land of Kumandra. Once prosperous and protected by dragons, Kumandra falls into disarray when set upon by a plague known as the Druun. The land is broken into five warring factions where the people mistrust and betray one another. In order to defeat the Druun, Raya journeys to find the fabled last dragon and reunite Kumandra once again. Although Kumandra is a fictional land, the culture depicted is influenced by several Southeast Asian countries. This is particularly true with the food! The menu for…
