The Sandlot Themed Dinner
Step up to the plate, because it’s time to swing for the fences with our Sandlot dinner and movie night!
The Sandlot is a summer staple in our house. Nothing brings on the nostalgia more than childhood innocence, the crack of the bat, and endless summer freedom.
Our two youngest are playing baseball and softball this summer, making The Sandlot feel even more relatable as our days are filled with games of catch, batting practice, and cheering from the stands. So, this year, I decided it was the perfect summer to create a Sandlot-themed dinner!

Our Sandlot dinner menu focused on all-American ballpark classics with nods to the film. We particularly enjoy watching The Sandlot around the Fourth of July, so we also incorporated festive red, white, and blue elements in our dinner.

We also created printable labels for our Sandlot dinner. The link to the free download is available below!

So, take a seat in the stands and grab some game-day snacks. Just don’t hit any balls over the fence, or you’ll contend with “The Beast.” Let’s play ball!

Ballpark Concessions
To kick off our Sandlot-themed dinner, I made a snack board inspired by popular ballpark concessions. “Take Me Out to the Ball Game” came to mind as I was assembling the spread.
Ballpark fare included peanuts, Cracker Jacks, popcorn, and sunflower seeds. I also included Big League Chew as a nod to the unfortunate tilt-a-whirl scene. And of course, we needed Baby Ruth bars as a tribute to The Great Bambino himself!

I also made baseball cupcakes to accent the board. And for a little Fourth of July flair, I included blue-and-red star cake pops and red-white-and-blue gummy rings.

L-7 Weenies
One of my favorite things about Sandlot is the way the kids mercilessly ridicule one another. A particularly vicious roasting occurred when the ragtag Sandlot kids first met the new kid in town, Scotty Smalls.
He was promptly proclaimed an “L-7 weenie,” and the boys even went so far as to compare him to an Oscar Mayer footlong.
Since hotdogs are a ballpark staple, it already made perfect sense to include them on our Sandlot dinner menu. But this particular hotdog roasting made them an even more applicable menu item!

I put my husband’s excellent grilling skills to use for our L-7 Weenies, and we loaded them up with all the delicious toppings you’d expect to find at the ballpark.
Caught in a (Fried) Pickle
Smalls was in “the biggest pickle” he had ever been in when he allowed his father’s autographed baseball to fly over the fence and become mangled by The Beast.
So, I incorporated pickles on our Sandlot dinner menu by serving fried pickles! To keep things as simple as possible, I grabbed pre-made fried pickles from the frozen section at Aldi.

But if you really want to go for the grand slam, you can make them from scratch! I particularly enjoy this fried pickle recipe from Sugar Spun Run.
Wendy Peffercorn’s Kisses
One of the most infamous scenes in The Sandlot is when Squints pretends to drown to sneak a kiss from the captivating lifeguard, Wendy Peffercorn.
Although the act was deplorable, I had to acknowledge this iconic Sandlot moment. But to keep things consensual, we utilized chocolate kisses instead.

And to add festive Fourth of July flair, I used Hershey’s Kisses with the patriotic foil wraps. If you have trouble tracking them down in-store, you can also find them on Amazon!
Smalls’ S’mores Bars
The most famous food moment in The Sandlot is when the boys are roasting s’mores and telling tall tales about The Beast. Poor, uninformed Smalls had no idea what this tasty concoction was before meeting the Sandlot gang. He was swiftly educated by s’mores master, Ham, and his life was forever changed.
While the idea of roasting marshmallows during our Sandlot dinner was enticing, I instead whipped up a batch of one of my favorite desserts – S’mores Bars. This recipe hails from Dessert Now Dinner Later.

These bars encapsulate all the best elements of s’mores – sweet graham crackers, melty chocolate, and toasted marshmallows. They were the perfect treat to wrap up our Sandlot dinner and movie night!
