Scream Themed Dinner
What’s your favorite scary movie? Because tonight we’re heading to Woodsboro, where the phone rings off the hook, and dinner is an utter scream. So, lock your doors and check the closets, because tonight we’re sharing our Scream themed dinner!
Scream is my ultimate favorite scary movie – you could say Ghostface is my Ghost-fave (this terrible pun was inspired by numerous typos while composing this article). I love the whodunnit aspect of the movie, which keeps you guessing who’s behind the mask. Plus, the film is full of 90s nostalgia (RIP video rental stores 😢).
With Halloween around the corner, I decided it was the perfect time to create this themed dinner. The iconic masked killer was the inspiration behind our Scream dinner menu – Ghostface!

So, get ready to eat, drink, and be scary. Just don’t say, “I’ll be right back,” or you may not survive the dinner party!

Ghostly Grazing Board
We all go a little mad sometimes – for appetizers! So, to kick off our Scream dinner, I created a charcuterie board inspired by Ghostface.
I used a variety of meats, cheeses, fruits, and crackers, as well as letter-shaped cookie cutters to create the “SCREAM” lettering.
The focal point of our charcuterie board was a cheeseball topped with an image of Ghostface. To create the image of our masked killer, I drew a stencil on parchment paper and filled in the open spaces with poppy seeds.

Killer Caprese Salad
For a healthy side dish, I made a caprese salad with mozzarella Ghostfaces.
The caprese salad recipe is my own creation, made with the following ingredients:
Dressing:
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 2.5 Tbl olive oil
- 1 Tbl white wine vinegar
- 1 tsp black pepper
- ½ tsp salt
- ½ tsp Dijon mustard
- ¼ tsp oregano
Balsamic Glaze (simmered on stove until thickened):
- 1 cup balsamic vinegar
- 4 Tbl honey
Salad:
- 20oz cherry tomatoes, halved
- 16oz mozzarella pearls
- 1/2 cup fresh basil, gently hand-torn
To make our Ghostfaces, I melted the mozzarella in my Horror Character Mold and let it cool until set. Then, I combined the faces with the rest of our salad ingredients and dressing.

Once everything was mixed, I drizzled the top with our balsamic glaze. The salad was scary good!
Grisly Ghostface Gnocchi
For our main entrée, I used the same Horror Movie Mold to make Ghostface Gnocchi.
Our gnocchi dough recipe came from Inside the Rustic Kitchen. Once the dough was ready, I painstakingly shaped each Ghostface dumpling into the mold. To ensure the gnocchi wouldn’t stick, I thoroughly dusted it with flour before shaping each dumpling.

This was absolutely a labor of love, and I questioned my sanity at one point, but I was thrilled my method actually worked out!

After boiling the gnocchi, I tossed them in pesto and served them over a marinara-splattered plate for a gruesome effect.

Scary Movie Popcorn
Scream opens with a young Drew Barrymore making Jiffy Pop Popcorn on the stove as she gets ready to watch a scary movie. Then, the phone rings…
This legendary scene is arguably one of the most effective intros in horror history, and sets the tone for the rest of the movie.
I knew I needed to make a batch of Jiffy Pop for our Scream dinner, if it even still existed.
To my surprise, I was able to order it from Amazon. And after I butchered the first batch, I was also pleasantly surprised to find it at my local Walmart! Some things never die. 😉

My family got a kick out of this “new” way of making popcorn, and the nostalgic 90s feelings were high!
Slasher Cupcakes
For a sweet treat to wrap up our Scream dinner, I made a batch of Ghostface cupcakes.
First, I prepared our chocolate Ghostfaces and weapons using the Horror Character Mold and Weapons Mold from Amazon. Once the chocolates were set, I painted the weapons with edible silver paint to create a metallic look.
I also prepared our Ghostface hoods by piping black frosting onto parchment paper and freezing them. I planned to peel them off the parchment paper when I was ready to decorate so they would keep their shape.
Our cupcakes were red velvet with cream cheese frosting. Once they were baked and frosted, I whipped up a small batch of edible fake blood to splatter on the frosting.
When it was time to decorate, I placed the frozen hoods on top of the cupcakes and adhered the faces with a touch of extra frosting. Then, I stabbed the weapons into the cupcakes and added a few more touches of fake blood.

I was thrilled with how they turned out, and they were frighteningly delicious!
You’re Not Scared, Are Ya?
I hope you enjoyed our Scream dinner and movie night. Now, hang up the phone and eat.
