DIY Mickey Mouse Themed Birthday Party – With Free Printables!

Gemma turned five this week!  Because she has a summer birthday, we always celebrate outdoors by grilling with friends and family and playing yard games.  Gemma also gets to pick a fun theme for her birthday party, and this year it was Mickey Mouse!  I love planning themed birthday parties, but they can get EXPENSIVE.  Luckily, the simple design and easily identifiable features of our favorite mouse made DIY-ing a variety of decorations and treats a breeze.  Follow along as I share ways you can DIY a Mickey Mouse Themed Birthday Party along with some free printables!

My ONE Amazon Purchase

Mickey Mouse Party Kit from Amazon

I made this ONE purchase on Amazon, mostly to get some cute Mickey ears for the guests to wear during the party.  At $17, I’d say it was quite the bargain considering you receive 10 pairs of ears, a birthday banner, balloons, AND a hanging Mickey sign.  I knew we could easily incorporate these items into our outdoor décor.

Edited to add – Unfortunately, the Mickey birthday supplies I ordered from Amazon is no longer available. If you are looking for similar decor or some inexpensive mouse ear favors, check out these Amazon links below:

Saving Money at the Dollar Store

The Dollar Store is my go-to stop when preparing for a party.  I was able to get all the necessary staples (plates, napkins, cups, and utensils) for our DIY Mickey Mouse Themed Birthday Party for super cheap!

While these items typically only come in one solid color, it’s very easy to do some quick crafting to elevate these items to fit your theme!  For example, on my red cups I simply attached Mickey’s signature white buttons to resemble his red shorts.

I also picked up most of the crafting supplies I needed for my Mickey Mouse DIY décor including cardstock, paper, glue, and paint.

DIY Décor

Birthday Banner

We already had a “Happy Birthday” banner included with our Amazon party package, but I also wanted to create something a little more personalized.  I used Canva to create stencils for our DIY Mickey Mouse banner, printed them out, and used cardstock from the Dollar Store to create the shapes and letters I needed.

Utensil Holder

For our Mickey Mouse themed food, we decided to set up a “Hot Diggity Dog Bar.” I painted a mason jar with Mickey’s signature colors to serve as our utensil holder. This was super easy to throw together with items we already had at home!

Signage

Canva, again, was my friend here.  Using the free site, I was able to create and print these signs and pop them into some frames from – you guessed it – the Dollar Store!  You can download and print these signs for your very own DIY Mickey Mouse Themed Birthday Party below:

Mickey Photo Booth Frame

This photo booth frame was another relatively simple DIY using cardstock purchased from the dollar store.  The tricky part was reinforcing the cardstock with some sturdier cardboard so guests would be able to hold up the sign for photo opportunities.  I think it turned out great and it was a great way to encourage guests to get in some photos!

DIY Treats

Mickey cupcakes with oreo ears, red cupcake wrappers with mickey's white short buttons painted on, and a cupcake stand made from a red bowl and black paint, Red bowl also has white dots painted to resemble Mickey's shorts

Mickey Cupcake Stand

The cupcake stand was super easy to create for our DIY Mickey Mouse Themed Birthday Party.  I bought a red bowl from the Dollar Store and once again added those signature white buttons to make it easily identifiable as Mickey.  Then, I simply set a black plate form our cupboard atop the bowl and PRESTO!  You have a Mickey Mouse cupcake stand.

Mickey Cupcake Liners

For our cupcake liners, I used a template from Meaningful Mama and printed it out on red cardstock paper.  To make them distinctly Mickey, I (again) painted those white buttons to resemble his shorts.  Starting to see a trend here?!

Mouse Ear Cupcakes

The cupcakes themselves were decorated to look like Mickey heads.  I baked chocolate cupcakes and frosted them with chocolate buttercream.  Then, I added two Oreo cookies to resemble his mouse ears.  A cupcake AND two cookies as a treat??? How could you go wrong?!  The kids loved them!

I hope you enjoyed these ideas for a DIY Mickey Mouse Themed Birthday Party!  Gemma and her guests had a great time.  Hopefully, you have found some inspiration to throw your own Mickey Mouse Party!
