Mandalorian Themed Dinner

This week, we enjoyed a themed dinner featuring our favorite characters from The Mandalorian!

Currently in its third season, The Mandalorian has been a pop culture phenomenon ever since it debuted on Disney+.  With its brand new characters and storylines, this fresh take on the Star Wars universe has touched the hearts and minds of viewers all over the world. 

As we approach National Star Wars Day on May 4th, I decided now would be the perfect time to plan a themed dinner to enjoy during the latest Mandalorian episode.  Our menu items were directly inspired by the Mandalorian warriors and fan-favorite character – Grogu (aka “Baby Yoda”).

This Is the Way

A common symbol we see associated with the Mandalorians is the Mythrosaur skull sigil.  According to lore, these mythical beasts once inhabited the mines of Mandalore, and over time became the symbol of the planet and its people.

If you’ve been following our themed dinners, you may have noticed I’m a sucker for a good cheeseball.  And the more artistic I can make it, the better!  So, for our Mandalorian themed dinner, I decided to make a cheeseball and incorporate the Mythrosaur skull sigil. 

I used a tried-and-true cheeseball recipe from Build Your Bite but omitted the pecan topping.  Instead, I left the outside bare so I could create the sigil with poppy seeds.  This is the same technique I used for our Bruce the Shark and Jack Skellington cheeseballs.

First, I printed off the image to fit my cheeseball and traced it on parchment paper.  Then, I used an exacto knife to cut out the image to create a stencil.  I smoothed the stencil over the cheeseball and filled in the empty spaces with poppy seeds. 

Once again, this simple technique worked out great!  I love how the sigil turned out, and the kids were big fans of this appetizer for our Mandalorian themed dinner.

I’m a Mandalorian.  Weapons Are Part of My Religion.

Pizza is always a hit with the family.  And while I was planning our dinner, I thought it would be simple to arrange some toppings to resemble the Mandalorians.  Or more specifically – Boba Fett!

To keep things simple, I picked up a take-and-bake pizza on my way home from work.  Then, I added black olives and peppers to make a simple design of Boba Fett’s helmet and popped it in the oven. 

The kids got a kick out of the design. But seeing as they aren’t fans of peppers, my husband and I got to have all those delicious pieces to ourselves!

Come on, Baby!  Do the Magic Hand Thing!

As a side dish for our Mandalorian themed dinner, I made Grogu deviled eggs.  I got the idea and recipe for these adorable morsels from Popcorner Reviews.  It was the perfect time to make this recipe because we already had a fridge full of dyed Easter eggs!

I love how they look just like Grogu as he’s floating around in his hovering pram.  So cute!

Spicy Mandalorian Stew

When Grogu was being all adorable sipping soup in The Mandalorian, the internet went wild.  So of course, I had to include soup on our Mandalorian themed dinner menu.

And I was absolutely thrilled to discover a recipe for Spicy Mandalorian Stew in my copy of Galaxy’s Edge: The Official Black Spire Outpost Cookbook.

Quick aside: If you’re a fan of Star Wars and enjoy cooking, this is a must-own cookbook!  We’ve had a lot of fun making our favorite Galaxy’s Edge dishes at home, like the Endorian Tip Yip.  Each recipe contains an informal excerpt from intergalactic gourmet chef – Strono “Cookie” Tuggs who has traveled the far corners of the galaxy to perfect his craft.  The amusing excerpts build a story and create wonderful authenticity to these Star Wars recipes.  Highly recommend!

Wherever I Go, He Goes

Next up on our Mandalorian themed dinner menu was our Mando and Grogu fruit pizza.  The recipe I used to make our fruit pizza came from Tornadough Alli.  And let me tell you, this recipe was awesome!

When the crust and frosting was ready, I arranged kiwis, raspberries, and blueberries in the shape of Mando’s helmet.  I also made several Grogu faces with kiwi and blueberries. 

Yes, I’ll admit Mando’s color scheme reads more like Boba.  But I was hard-pressed to come up with Mando’s silver coloring in fruit form!

The Child

And no Mandalorian themed dinner would be complete without the quintessential “Baby Yoda cookies.”  I first made these cookies during our May the Fourth National Star Wars Day Party!

When The Mandalorian first premiered, fans were thrilled to discover their classic angel cookie cutters could also be utilized to make Grogu cookies.  So, I dug out my Christmas baking supplies and got in on the fun too. 

I decorated our cookies with colored icing and added chocolate chips for the eyes.  And there you have it – Baby Yoda cookies!

Photon Fizzle

While I was perusing my Galaxy’s Edge Cookbook to find recipes to use for our Mandalorian Themed Dinner, I stumbled across a great cocktail recipe.

The Photon Fizzle is made with gin, rosemary simple syrup, lime juice, and ginger beer.  Not only did the recipe sound tasty and have great Star Wars theming, but the boba pearls also reminded me of one of Grogu’s favorite snacks – frog eggs.

I made Photon Fizzles for myself and my husband, while also making kid-friendly versions by omitting the gin.  The kids really enjoyed the boba pearls!  And I must admit – they definitely reminded me of slimy frog eggs.
