SpongeBob SquarePants Birthday Party Theme

This week, we celebrated my daughter’s 8th birthday with a SpongeBob SquarePants party theme!

My kids are big SpongeBob fans.  It all started with my oldest, who is now 16 – if you can believe it!  She adored the cartoon growing up, so for her 3rd birthday I made her a SpongeBob cake.

Little did I know then, but that would be the start of many themed dinners.

Since my oldest passed on her love of SpongeBob to her younger siblings, I thought it would be fun to revisit the theme for my younger daughter’s 8th birthday party.

Her SpongeBob birthday party featured DIY decorations, party games, and food and desserts to fit the theme!

SpongeBob Birthday Party Decorations

I made our decorations with a quick stop to the dollar store to pick up poster board, paints, balloons and streamers.

My first piece of poster board was used to create our “Welcome to Bikini Bottom Sign.”

I hung it on the fence and surrounded it with paper flowers and streamers to resemble seaweed.

I also made jellyfish with pink balloons, streamers, and ribbon.  But the wind kept threatening to carry our jellyfish over to our neighbor’s house, so we relocated them indoors.

Fans of SpongeBob are all too familiar with the time lapse cards frequently used in the show to demonstrate the passing of time.

So, I thought it would be fun to do a play on this reoccurring theme from SpongeBob and create an “8 Years Later” sign for the birthday party.

I used Canva to create the design, and then printed it at our local photo center.  You can find a free printable version by clicking below!

And finally, I couldn’t successfully execute a SpongeBob birthday party theme without representing DoodleBob!

The crudely drawn caricature of SpongeBob was super simple to make with poster board and sharpie!

SpongeBob Birthday Party Fun

For a fun party activity, I created a Pin the Pants on SpongeBob game.

Rather than blindfold our guests who were playing, I fashioned some SpongeBob eyewear using an old pair of sunglasses and eyes made with posterboard and felt eyelashes.  Many giggles ensued!

And no SpongeBob birthday party would be complete without – bubbles!

Our bubble machine ensured the kids had a bubble bonanza to play in.

SpongeBob Birthday Party Food

I had way too much fun coming up with SpongeBob themed dishes to serve at the birthday party.  I also made printable food labels you can download by clicking the link below!

Whenever I plan a themed dinner, my daughter always has a creative cheeseball idea to incorporate on the menu.  So, I had to make a SpongeBob cheeseball for her party!

I used my go-to cheeseball recipe from Build Your Bite, and created SpongeBob’s likeness with poppy seeds, olives, cheese, and red pepper.

Our green punch was inspired by the wildly popular Kelp Shakes from the cartoon.  I used a recipe from Eating on a Dime to create the perfect green hue.

But unlike the slightly radioactive beverage from the show, I can confidently say our punch had zero negative side effects (apart from the anticipated sugar rush!).

To make the SpongeBob cake, I used a recipe from Sugar Spun Run and decorated it with buttercream frosting.

And finally, I had to pick up a couple boxes of SpongeBob popsicles – just because!  You can find these at Target and Walmart.

I hope you enjoyed our SpongeBob SquarePants birthday party theme!  This was a lot of fun to plan, and even more fun to enjoy with family and friends.
