The BEST Places to Take a Break in Animal Kingdom
This week, we are covering the best places to take a break in Animal Kingdom.
A full day at the Disney Parks can be EXHAUSTING. The early mornings, hot sun, long lines, and miles of walking each day can really add up. Taking breaks is essential, especially when traveling with little ones or guests with mobility issues or special needs.
The best way to rest and recharge is by taking a midday break at your resort. But that isn’t always the most convenient option for parkgoers. So, I’m creating a series of posts that cover the best spots to take a break in each Walt Disney World park. And today, we are talking about Animal Kingdom!
I’ve organized the best Animal Kingdom break locations in the following categories:
Off the Beaten Path – locations to sit and get away from the crowds
Rest and Refuel – quieter places to grab a drink or snack
Playgrounds – areas for little ones to blow off steam while adults regroup
Attractions – relaxed rides and shows that allow you to rest (and are often airconditioned!)
Baby Care Centers – complimentary facilities which offer amenities for babies and toddlers
Whether you need to rest your feet, let a little one snooze in the stroller, or regroup and recharge – be sure to check out these Animal Kingdom break locations!
Off the Beaten Path
These areas tend to have lower crowds and offer seating in the shade or A/C. Amenities such as restroom facilities and charging stations may also be available.
Oasis Exhibits
Our first Animal Kingdom break location can be found near the park entrance at the Oasis exhibits. Many guests race right past these animal viewing areas in their attempts to join a popular ride queue. But if you take your time, you will discover many secluded nooks and gorgeous scenery throughout the space. For example, before crossing the bridge to Discovery Island, you will find several shaded benches hidden in the rock cut-outs.
Nature Trails
I get what you are probably thinking – why would I want to walk on a trail when I’m trying to relax?! But rest assured, these trails are not at all difficult to navigate. They are meant to be enjoyed at your own pace, and you will find several shaded benches and quiet places to stop along the way. Guests exploring the trails will encounter lush nature and remarkable wildlife as they take a break from the hustle and bustle of Animal Kingdom.
These are the trails you may wish to explore while you take a break in Animal Kingdom:
Discovery Trails
These trails wind around the Tree of Life in the heart of Animal Kingdom. While walking the paths, guests will encounter waterfalls, tunnels, and detailed views of the animal carvings on the tree. Animals you may encounter include kangaroos, lemurs, flamingos, and otters.
Maharajah Jungle Trek
These trails are teeming with lush foliage reminiscent of the jungles of Asia. Tigers, gibbons, and Komodo dragons can be found on the trail, as well as an aviary housing tropical birds.
Gorilla Falls Exploration Trail
The winding paths of Pangani Forest are home to African animals such as hippos, zebra, and gorillas. Observation stations allow guests an up-close view of these amazing creatures while taking in the beauty of their surroundings.
Conservation Station
Located at Rafiki Planet Watch, Conservation Station is a great place to escape the crowds while soaking in some A/C. Guests will find plenty of benches as well as nearby bathrooms.
To get to Rafiki Planet Watch, guests must board a train – a bit of time and effort many guests decide to bypass. Because of this, the area remains uncrowded. Which is unfortunate, because there is plenty to do there which makes the trip worth it!
Rest and Refuel
Flame Tree Barbecue
This Quick Service restaurant serves large portions of traditional barbecue entrees and sides. Ample seating makes it easy for weary guests to find a place to rest.
For a truly relaxing experience, head outside to the waterfront seating area. The ceiling fans and shade will keep you cool on a hot day. Here, you can take in beautiful views of the lake, wildlife, and Expedition Everest in the distance.

If you aren’t looking for a place to dine, you can also find a small, covered seating area outside Restaurantosaurus on the way to Dino-Bite Snacks. Perfect for taking a quick break to regroup.
Nomad Lounge
This hidden gem is a great spot to escape the crowds and take a break in Animal Kingdom. Located next to Tiffins, this lounge features a menu of small plates and libations inspired by flavors across the globe. Despite being a lounge, the location is family-friendly and offers a kids menu. No Advance Dining Reservations are required.
There are plenty of oversized chairs and couches to relax on, inside and out. If you head outside, you can enjoy shaded seating while admiring beautiful views of Discovery River. It truly is a relaxing and serene space to escape the busy theme park.
