EPCOT Avocado Margarita Recipe

This week, I’m sharing my copycat recipe for the famous EPCOT Avocado Margarita!

EPCOT’s Avocado Margarita can be found at La Cava del Tequila, a small tequila bar located within the Mexico Pavilion pyramid.  This concoction is a favorite among parkgoers challenging themselves to “Drink Around the World” in World Showcase.  (Check out our Eating and Drinking Around the World adventure HERE!)

Using my past bartending knowledge, I challenged myself to come up with my own recipe for EPCOTs’ Avocado Margarita to enjoy during our Coco Themed Dinner.  (Check out our tribute to Coco and Dia de los Muertos HERE!)

The Components of a Margarita

A traditional margarita is quite simple to make.  Tequila, lime juice, and agave nectar are the only ingredients you need for a great margarita.  You can shake these ingredients in a Boston shaker with ice and serve “on the rocks.”  Or you can blend those ingredients with ice to serve the cocktail “frozen.”

Oftentimes, people will choose to add a fruit flavor to their margarita (such as mango or strawberry).  Many people also prefer to add Triple Sec or Cointreau, orange flavored liqueurs, for extra flavor and punch.

EPCOT’s Avocado Margarita

Glancing at the La Cava cocktail menu, it appears the EPCOT Avocado Margarita recipe is a simple play on the classic margarita.  The ingredients listed include blanco tequila, melon liqueur, fresh avocado, and lime.  This cocktail is served frozen with a hibiscus salt rim.  Yum!

I special ordered the hibiscus salt from Amazon. You can find the same product I used by clicking HERE!

The only ingredient not listed on the menu, is the agave nectar.  We know there must be some sort of sweetener in the Avocado Margarita to counterbalance the acidity of the lime juice, so I think agave nectar (made from the same plant as tequila) is the most likely option.

One of my favorite things about the Avocado Margarita is the hibiscus salt rim.  It’s such an interesting and unique flavor that compliments the sweetness of the avocado.

Avocado Margarita Ingredients

This avocado Margarita recipe makes two cocktails, because what better way to enjoy a margarita than by sharing with a friend?!

Equipment:

  • Jiggers – to measure your spirits and agave
  • Lime Juicer (can also be done by hand)
  • Blender
  • Margarita Glasses

Ingredients:

  • 4oz Blanco Tequila
  • 2oz Melon Liqueur (such as Midori)
  • 1 Avocado
  • 2oz Lime Juice (or about 2 limes)
  • 2oz Agave Nectar
  • 2 Cups Ice
  • Hibiscus Salt

Be forewarned:  There is a decent amount of alcohol in this cocktail!  3oz per serving to be exact, which equals about two of your typical highball cocktails.  Be sure to drink responsibly!

Avocado Margarita Preparation

Gather your necessary equipment and ingredients.

1. I like to get my cocktail glasses rimmed with salt first.  To do this, pour out some hibiscus salt on a small plate and rub a wedge of lime along the outer rim of your cocktail glass.  Gently spin your glass in the salt on your plate until thoroughly coated. Now it’s time to build your cocktail!

2. Measure out your tequila, melon liqueur, and agave nectar in your blender.  If using prepared lime juice, measure that out too!  Otherwise, plan to squeeze about two limes worth of juice into your blender.

3. Remove your avocado fruit from its peel and pit and toss that in the blender along with about two cups of ice.  I used crushed ice, so if using large cubes, you may want to add a little more to get the right consistency.

4. Blend your margaritas until smooth and pour into your prepared cocktail glass.  Enjoy!
