KPop Demon Hunters Themed Dinner
KPop Demon Hunters fandom has been sweeping the nation, and my family is no exception. The story, characters, and (best of all) music have made this one of our favorite films to enjoy together. So, I created a KPop Demon Hunters themed dinner to take our next movie night up a notch. I’ll be honest, when I first saw Netflix advertise this movie, I thought the concept seemed silly. Pop idols slaying demons? I think I’ll pass. But when I learned adults my age were obsessing over the movie as much as the kids, we had to see what the fuss was about. And boy, was I wrong about dismissing…

Little Shop of Horrors Themed Dinner
This week’s themed dinner was inspired by the horror comedy musical – Little Shop of Horrors! While it’s still very much the summer season, come August, we can’t help but get excited for Halloween. So, to dip our toes in the spooky season while still respecting these sunshiny days, I aspired to create a themed dinner that touched on both seasons. A “Summerween” film, if you’ve jumped on that bandwagon. And then it hit me – Little Shop of Horrors! The film’s flower shop setting embodies summer, while the terrifying carnivorous plant delivers the creepy component. I don’t know about you, but it makes perfect sense to me! The catchy…

Wicked Themed Dinner
The week, we stepped into the land of Oz with a spellbinding Wicked themed dinner! Inspired by The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, Wicked first debuted on Broadway in 2003. The musical focuses on two witches, Elphaba and Glinda, and the events which occurred before and after Dorothy Gale donned her ruby slippers. Despite being polar opposites in nature, Elphaba and Glinda develop a deep friendship. However, their friendship is tested by the corrupt rule of Oz and ultimately leads to Elphaba’s descent into villainy as the Wicked Witch of the West. Wicked achieved massive success and became one of the longest-running shows in Broadway history. I was incredibly fortunate to…

It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown – Themed Dinner
We capped off our Halloween dinner series with a menu inspired by It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown! It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown has been a timeless Halloween tradition since it first aired in 1966. Based on the comic strip Peanuts, this animated special follows Charlie Brown and his friends as they celebrate Halloween. However, Linus chooses to forgo his friends’ traditional celebrations, and instead spends Halloween waiting in a pumpkin patch for the mythical Great Pumpkin. Our Great Pumpkin dinner was inspired by Charlie Brown and his friends as well as Linus’s “sincere” pumpkin patch! * This post contains affiliate links. This means, if you click a link…

SpongeBob SquarePants Birthday Party Theme
This week, we celebrated my daughter’s 8th birthday with a SpongeBob SquarePants party theme! My kids are big SpongeBob fans. It all started with my oldest, who is now 16 – if you can believe it! She adored the cartoon growing up, so for her 3rd birthday I made her a SpongeBob cake. Little did I know then, but that would be the start of many themed dinners. Since my oldest passed on her love of SpongeBob to her younger siblings, I thought it would be fun to revisit the theme for my younger daughter’s 8th birthday party. Her SpongeBob birthday party featured DIY decorations, party games, and food and…

Christmas Vacation Themed Dinner
This week’s themed dinner was inspired by the classic holiday comedy, National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation! In Christmas Vacation, family man Clark Griswold strives to host the perfect “old-fashioned Christmas” for his family and extended relatives. But his well-intentioned plans go awry, and mayhem ensues. This film is full of hilarious scenes and quotable moments, not to mention some great food references. So, this year, I decided to join in on the “old-fashioned Christmas” fun and have a Christmas Vacation themed dinner! Creating our Christmas Vacation themed dinner menu was a lot of fun. I took inspiration from Clark’s colorful family members as well as several hilarious food references in the…

Coraline Themed Dinner
With spooky season in full swing, we continued our themed dinner nights with a menu inspired by the movie, Coraline! Coraline is one of our favorite movies to watch during our Halloween festivities. We find ourselves referencing it all year long! The film is haunting, yet charming, and the perfect basis for a spooky themed dinner. Food is a major factor in the film, as Coraline’s sinister Other Mother uses it to lure Coraline into her idealized fantasy world. Because of this, I’ve always wanted to create a Coraline themed dinner, but the task was a little daunting. Other Mother is a legendary cook, after all! I knew it was…

Horror Movie Dinner Party
Friday the 13th occurs during October this year! I can’t think of a better day to host a horror movie marathon. It’s spooky season, after all! So, this week we’ve put together a spine-tingling horror movie dinner menu! Ok, so this is a big step away from the Disney magic I usually focus on. But I have a horror-loving 15-year-old I gotta bend the rules for sometimes! So, we came up with some fun horror-themed dishes to enjoy during our horror movie marathon. Each menu item features one of our favorite horror icons: Michael Myers, Ghostface, Jason Voorhees, Pennywise, Freddy Krueger, and Chucky. Which dish will you be executing this…
