Oga’s Cantina at Galaxy’s Edge – A Review!

This week, we are diving into the world of Star Wars to review Oga’s Cantina!

Oga’s Cantina is a lounge located in Galaxy’s Edge at Hollywood Studios.  Galaxy’s Edge is known for its rich theming and attention to detail, and Oga’s Cantina is no exception! 

When you set foot in Oga’s Cantina, you’re immediately transported to a galaxy far, far away.  Known to be a popular watering hole for smugglers, bounty hunters, pilots, and weary travelers – it’s clear Oga’s Cantina is brimming with character and story.  

What Star Wars fan hasn’t secretly (or not-so-secretly) dreamed of visiting the infamous Mos Eisley Cantina from the original film?  Well, now you can experience it all while sipping Oga’s galactic drink offerings amongst scugholes and scruffy-looking nerf herders alike!

As with most lounges on Disney property, Oga’s Cantina is youngling-friendly.  In addition, there is an extensive list of nonalcoholic beverages for patrons young and old to enjoy.

Most Disney lounges don’t accept reservations, but due to Oga’s popularity, advance dining reservations are accepted and strongly recommended.

It is important to note that each guest may order a maximum of two drinks at Oga’s Cantina, and visits are limited to 45 minutes per party.

Hours of operation at Oga’s Cantina coincide with park open and close.  This means you can start your morning or end your day with a visit to the Cantina.  You can even snag a reservation after park close and enjoy a nearly empty Galaxy’s Edge when you exit!

Backstory

To really appreciate the theming of Oga’s Cantina, I think it’s important to understand the backstory of the space.  So, to kick off our review of Oga’s Cantina, here’s a brief overview of this watering hole:

Oga Garra is the Blutopian proprietor of the Cantina.  She also is the so-called “crime boss” of Black Spire Outpost.  As I mentioned before, patrons from all walks of life gather at the Cantina to conduct business (legal or otherwise), confront enemies, or brag about their latest smuggling achievements.  Over time, Oga’s Cantina has become a popular rest stop for those hiding out from the First Order.

Entertainment within the Cantina is provided by DJ R3X (aka Rex).  If you think this resident DJ looks familiar – you’re absolutely right! 

Rex was a former pilot droid on Star Tours before being fired from the company (one too many crash landings).  As the story goes, Rex later found his way to the rebellion, and crash-landed on Batuu while being pursued by TIE Fighters.  After the crash, Rex was repaired and reprogrammed into a DJ to provide musical entertainment inside Oga’s Cantina. 

Fun fact: Rex has an entire album called DJ R3X Oga’s Cantina available on Spotify.  The music immediately transports us to Galaxy’s Edge and is the soundtrack for our annual May the Fourth party!

Atmosphere

Stepping inside the Cantina feels like you are stepping inside a Star Wars film.  Right away, you’ll notice the large, circular bar that winds around the room.

The backbar is surrounded with fun, colorful lighting as well as various spouted vessels in which the taps and pre-mixed cocktails are poured from.

The bar top itself is lit within as well as the high-top tables.  If you place your drinks on the lighting, they look like they’re glowing!

You will also notice a few alien creatures throughout the space including a Swamp Slug, a Mynock, and a Worrt.  Many of them are wallowing in colorful, slimy liquids.  The liquids travel by tube to various taps behind the bar, giving the impression they are key ingredients in some of the cocktails.

Seating is very limited inside the Cantina.  The bar top is standing room only, as well as the high-top tables.  There are only a few tables that supply seats, and they are provided on a first come, first served basis.

DJ Rex provides fun, upbeat music creating an exciting atmosphere in the Cantina.  He also makes jokes and gets the bartenders and patrons involved in his show. 

Overall, the atmosphere is fun and lively as well as visually fascinating.  You could spend hours just picking out all the tiny details and fun Star Wars references.

The Menu

Oga’s Cantina features an extensive list of cocktails as well as beer, wine, and cider on tap.  It is important to note, however, this is not a full-service bar.  This means you will not be able to order an off-menu drink in the Cantina.

In addition to the alcoholic offerings, Oga’s serves several nonalcoholic beverages and a few bar snacks.  Food is very limited here, however, so if you are wanting a meal, head to Docking Bay 7 instead.

Drinks

For our Oga’s Cantina review, I’m including the drinks we’ve ordered over several visits.  As I mentioned before, there is a maximum of 2 drinks per guest at this establishment.

Alcoholic

Dagobah Slug Slinger ($18) – Herradura Reposado Tequila, Bols Blue Curaçao Liqueur, citrus juices, ginger, herbs and bitters

The Dagobah Slug Slinger reminded me of an elevated margarita.  It was sweet and citrusy.  The herbaceous notes paired well with the spicy hints of ginger and bitters.  Overall, this cocktail was nicely balanced and interestingly complex.

Fuzzy Tauntaun ($18) – Cîroc Peach Vodka, Bols Peach Schnapps Liqueur, orange juice with tangerine, pure cane sugar, and ‘Buzz Button Tingling’ Foam

The Fuzzy Tauntaun is probably the most famous cocktail offering at Oga’s Cantina because of one key ingredient –Buzz Buttons.  Buzz Buttons create a foam in the cocktail which causes a tingling and numbing sensation in your mouth as you sip.  It was certainly an unusual experience!    

Tingling effect aside, this cocktail is basically a glorified Fuzzy Navel (I’ve made many in my past bartending days).  The drink itself is very sweet, and not worth ordering unless you want to experience the Buzz Button effect.

Jedi Mind Trick ($17) – Ketel One Botanical Grapefruit & Rose Vodka, John D. Taylor’s Velvet Falernum, Bols Blue Curaçao Liqueur, white grape juice, lime juice, and grapefruit bitters

I’m a big fan of this variety of Ketel One, so I was curious to see how Oga’s would craft a cocktail with it.  The vodka really shines in this drink which I appreciated.  The Falernum added a warm, spicy component that contrasted well with the citrus elements.

There are no fancy gimmicks with this drink, but it’s a good option for those who prefer vodka and want to try something new.

Bespin Fizz ($20) – Bacardí Superior Rum, yuzu purée, pomegranate juice, white cranberry juice, and a “cloud swirl”

Next up on our tour of Oga’s cocktails was the Bespin Fizz.  This cocktail is arguably the most visually impressive offering at the Cantina due to its bubbling and fizzing presentation. 

The sweetness of the rum contrasted nicely with the yuzu puree and fruit juices creating a tart and refreshing cocktail.  It was the perfect beverage on a hot afternoon!

The Outer Rim ($19) – Patrón Silver Tequila, Stirrings Pomegranate Liqueur, lime juice, pure cane sugar, with black salt and exotic fruit purée

The Outer Rim stood out as a favorite of ours.  You could argue this cocktail is another margarita, but the flavors were spot on, and you could really taste the tequila.

The black salt rim really brightened the citrus flavors and contrasted nicely with the sweet elements of the drink.  Highly recommend!

Bloody Rancor ($20) – Tito’s Handmade Vodka, Ancho Reyes Chile Liqueur, spicy Bloody Mary mix, rancor bone

I’m a sucker for a good Bloody Mary, so I couldn’t pass on trying the Bloody Rancor.  And despite my husband giving me a hard time for ordering a Bloody Mary at 3pm (understandable), I really enjoyed this! The mix was flavorful and slightly spicy.

The rancor bone garnish, however, was a miss for me.  It looked cool, but it was very sweet.  It wasn’t until I tasted it that I realized it was meringue, which I thought was an odd garnish for a Bloody Mary.  I tried giving it to my kids, but they didn’t want it either ha!

Overall, the cocktails trended on the sweet side, and didn’t seem overly strong.  But the flavors were good, and the presentation certainly fit the Star Wars theming. 

However, I did struggle with the price point.  Ranging from $17-$20, I found that to be a very hefty price tag for pre-mixed cocktails.

I think to justify the cost you have to factor in your environment while enjoying them.

Non-Alcoholic

Blue Bantha ($13) – Blue Milk served chilled with bantha-inspired vanilla-butter sugar cookie

The Blue Bantha is reminiscent of a smoothie.  It features exotic citrus flavors and a creamy texture due to the coconut and rice milk.  There is no actual dairy in this drink, making it vegan and lactose-friendly.

Blue Milk isn’t for me, but our kids love it.  We make a point to order one every time we visit the Cantina.  This is the same Blue Milk served at the Milk Stand in Galaxy’s Edge, but Oga’s concoction comes with a bantha cookie.

Jabba Juice ($7) – Simply Orange with pineapple, kiwi, cantaloupe, and blueberry popping pearls

The Jabba Juice was a refreshing beverage on a hot day.  The tropical flavors gave this drink a sweet tanginess, and the popping pearls were super fun for the kids.  This was the first time our two-year-old tried boba, and he loved it!

Carbon Freeze ($8) – POWERADE Lemon Lime, Wild Strawberry, Blueberry, and Green Apple Popping Pearls

This drink was another hit with the kids! We’ve learned that whenever popping boba pearls are present, smiling faces follow.

Eats

Food offerings are very limited at Oga’s Cantina and mostly consist of bar-type snacks. 

Batuu Bits ($11) – crispy galaxy snack bits with a spiced dip

Batuu Bits are essentially a sweet and spicy party mix with various crisps and dehydrated veggies served with a spiced chermoula dip.

Happabore Sampler ($21) – cured and roasted meats, cheese, and pork cracklings

This dish is essentially Oga’s version of a charcuterie board.  You can expect to find a variety of meats and cheeses with accompaniments. I’m a big fan of cheese boards, so this was a win for me!

Oga’s Obsession ($7.50) – Minute Maid Premium Lemonade, cotton candy flavor, and blueberry popping pearls with a bursting dried fruit mixture

My husband ordered this “provision” as something fun for the kids.  It’s essentially a fancy Jell-O Cup served in a Petri dish.  The kids enjoyed the sweet cotton candy flavoring, and the popping pearls and pop rocks created fun textures.

This was kid-approved, but very spendy for what I consider to be a glorified Jell-O Cup. 

There is also an alcoholic version of this “provision” called the Rodian Ration ($15.50).  Made with Tito’s Handmade Vodka, Dekuyper Sour Apple Pucker, green apple, Sprite, and boba balls – think of it as a very expensive Jell-O shot! 

Final Thoughts

Now that we’ve covered all the ins and outs of Oga’s Cantina, you may be wondering if this popular experience is worth booking.  Let’s weigh the pros and cons:

Skip If…

If you are not a Star Wars fan and are on a budget – Oga’s Cantina can be skipped.  Everything there is pricey!  We spent over $100 in one visit on just drinks for us and our kids, and that was before gratuity.  Ouch!

Another thing to consider is the lack of seating in the area.  If you are traveling with young children, it may present some challenges and make it difficult to enjoy your time there.  Table seating is very limited, and is first come, first served. 

Reserve If…

Oga’s Cantina is a must-do for Star Wars fans.  The theming is top-notch – you really feel like you’ve stepped into a Star Wars film!

If you’re looking for a unique cocktail experience – Oga’s has it.  The food and drinks here are exclusive to Galaxy’s Edge, and you won’t find anything like them elsewhere on property.

I’m a huge Star Wars fan, so a visit to Oga’s was a rite of passage, and I’m glad we’ve experienced it more than once.  Moving forward, it won’t be a must-do every trip we take.  The cost is a detractor for me, and the lack of seating has been somewhat uncomfortable when travelling with littles.  

On the other hand, if I ever find myself in Galaxy’s Edge with just my husband or a group of friends, I will absolutely return!
