Hocus Pocus Charcuterie Board

We can’t get enough of the Sanderson Sisters!  They are the reigning queens of Halloween in our household.  So, this week, we paid tribute to our favorite trio of witches with a Hocus Pocus charcuterie board!

Hocus Pocus Charcuterie Board

If you’ve been following this blog, you know Halloween is a big deal for my family.  And Hocus Pocus tops the chart of our favorite Halloween movies.  We love the movie so much; we host an annual Hocus Pocus viewing party with our friends!  So, when I first saw the Hocus Pocus charcuterie board trend circulating the internet – I had to get in on the fun!

In this post, we’ll share how we assembled our Hocus Pocus charcuterie board so you can create your own for your next Halloween party!

Deli

Meat and cheese are essential for a delicious charcuterie spread, so our Hocus Pocus board required a trip to the deli.

The first ingredient I needed was brie for the faces of each Sanderson Sister.  And let me tell you – it was a real struggle trying to find the right sized brie wheels for our board!  Everything at our local stores was either too small or too large.

But luckily (as I defeatedly stared at a 16oz wheel of brie) inspiration struck – cookie cutters!  I bought the biggest wheel I could find and used a circular cookie cutter to make each face.  This hack worked great and even saved me money as opposed to buying three smaller wheels!

To make Winifred’s hair, I used toothpicks to skewer rolled up slices of pepperoni and affixed them to the brie.  Sarah’s hair, on the other hand, was made with thin slices of Colby.

I also wanted to create a tribute to Thackery Binx, the poor boy cursed to live an immortal life as a cat.  I purchased Boursin cheese and planned to top it with the image of a cat sitting on the moon with a stencil and poppy seeds.  I’ve used this technique tons of times with cheeseballs, and hoped the Boursin would serve as a lazy shortcut.

Well, unfortunately my technique didn’t work out quite as well on the Boursin, and my oldest thought it was supposed to be the Black Flame Candle rather than a cat.  But at least it still fit the theme!

The final deli purchases I made for the charcuterie board were some regular sliced cheeses for the “Hocus Pocus” lettering as well as blueberry goat cheese (just because I think it’s pretty!).

Produce

I used blueberries to create a night sky effect to go with my Thackery Binx moon (or Black Flame Candle, if you prefer).  My original plan included more cheese stars, but I ended up running out of room!

I wanted the sisters’ bodies to match their iconic colors (Winnifred – green, Sarah – purple, and Mary – red).  So, I used kiwi, grapes, and strawberries, respectively.  I also used blackberries for Mary’s stylish updo.

Candy and Crackers

Charcuterie boards need a sturdy vessel to complement the spread, so I used a mix of rosemary and wheat crackers.  I also embellished with a few bat chips, because they’re just so cute!

And what would the Sanderson Sisters be without their broomsticks?  I did a throwback to our Wizard of Oz Dinner melted witch cookies and made the sisters’ broomsticks with Mini Reese’s and pretzel rods.

All that was left was the finishing touches on the sisters’ faces!  I purchased a black edible marker from Amazon that worked great for the details, then made their lips out of sliced strawberry (and cheese for Winnie’s two buck teeth).

Hocus Pocus Charcuterie Board

The kids absolutely loved this tribute to the Sanderson Sisters and all the delicious goodies.  Our Hocus Pocus charcuterie board may need to become a Halloween tradition for years to come!

Do you have any favorite family traditions you share during Halloween?  I’d love to hear about them in the comments!
