Wicked Themed Dinner
The week, we stepped into the land of Oz with a spellbinding Wicked themed dinner!
Inspired by The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, Wicked first debuted on Broadway in 2003. The musical focuses on two witches, Elphaba and Glinda, and the events which occurred before and after Dorothy Gale donned her ruby slippers. Despite being polar opposites in nature, Elphaba and Glinda develop a deep friendship. However, their friendship is tested by the corrupt rule of Oz and ultimately leads to Elphaba’s descent into villainy as the Wicked Witch of the West.
Wicked achieved massive success and became one of the longest-running shows in Broadway history. I was incredibly fortunate to see the production in 2008. It was my first Broadway show, and one of the greatest experiences of my life! The musical was so incredible, I had to see it again with my oldest daughter when she was nine-years-old.

Due to the widespread acclaim of Wicked, there was a lot of buzz and excitement surrounding the film’s release. So, when my friend suggested we have a Wicked viewing party, I couldn’t resist putting together a themed dinner to mark the momentous occasion!
We’ve done a Wizard of Oz themed dinner in the past. But because Wicked is a retelling of that story, I wanted to do something different for this themed dinner.

So instead, I focused on the main characters of the film – Elphaba and Glinda. Their contrasting personalities inspired me to seek out recipes which incorporated their signature colors – green and pink!

I also created this Defying Gravity printable for our Wicked themed dinner. You can download the free image below!

Popular Popcorn
Popcorn is a staple of movie nights. But our popcorn needed a Wicked twist for this themed dinner! So, I decided to melt almond bark and color it pink and green to give our popcorn a sweet and eye-catching enhancement.

This was a super simple treat to put together, and a great way to kick off our Wicked themed dinner!
Flirt and Flounce Pinwheels
To continue our pink and green theme, I also whipped up a platter of pink and green pinwheels.

Our green pinwheels were a savory turkey and pesto option made with a recipe from Home Cooking Memories. Our pink pinwheels, on the other hand, were a sweeter offering made with cream cheese and fresh strawberries using a recipe from This Grandma is Fun. I also added a tiny drop of red food coloring to achieve a perfectly pink hue Glinda would be proud of.
Elphaba’s Green Grazing Board
As a tribute to Elphaba, I also created a grazing board of green snacks. This was a lot of fun to put together!

The centerpiece of our board was a pesto cheeseball I made using a recipe from Yep Recipes. To create Elphaba’s iconic witch hat on the top, I made a stencil with parchment paper, then filled it in with poppy seeds.
In addition to the cheeseball, I used the following ingredients to round out the board:
Sugar Snap Peas
Green Bell Pepper
Green Bean Chips
Avocado Crackers
Dill Havarti Cheese
Green Apple
Green Grapes
Pistachios
Vegetable Dip
The pesto cheeseball was delicious, and it was nice to have some healthy additions to our Wicked themed dinner.
Glinda’s Pink Party Platter
In contrast to Elphaba’s Green Grazing Board, I wanted to create a Pink Party Platter tribute for Glinda. However, I struggled to come up with pink foods for Glinda that weren’t solely candy and sweets. And in all honesty, I didn’t completely love the final presentation. But my kids will never complain about a platter of sweets, so it did the job!

The centerpiece for our platter was a Strawberry Cheesecake Cheeseball I made using a recipe from Sweet ReciPEAs. I also created a stencil on this cheeseball, but this time I made a crown using gold sprinkles.
The remaining platter ingredients included the following:
Strawberries
Raspberries
Strawberry Wafer Cookies
Pink Bon Bons
Star Lavosh Crackers
Merlot Cheese
Pink Goes Good With Green Cupcakes
As a final sweet treat for our Wicked themed dinner, I whipped up two small batches of cupcakes. For Glinda, I made vanilla cupcakes topped with pink buttercream frosting. For Elphaba, I made chocolate cupcakes topped with green buttercream frosting.
I also added crown and witch hat cupcake toppers I made using glitter paper and toothpicks.

They were the perfect sweet treat to conclude our Wicked themed dinner!
Everyone Deserves the Chance to Fly
I hope this themed dinner had you dancing through life and inspired your own Wicked viewing party. I know we will revisit some of these recipes when Part Two is released later this year!
