Top 10 Disney Movies to Celebrate Dad on Father’s Day
We’ve rounded up the Top 10 Disney Movies to Celebrate Dad on Father’s Day! These films feature Disney Dads who are fun-loving, strong, wise, and fiercely protective of their families. Do any of these Disney Dads measure up to the Dad you will be celebrating this Father’s Day?
10. Onward – Wilden Lightfoot
Over time magic faded away, but I hope there is a little magic left in you.
Wilden Lightfoot was a bold and carefree man. While we don’t see much of Wilden in this Disney movie (only half to be exact) he is another great Dad to celebrate on Father’s Day! After losing their father at a young age, Ian and Barley are given the magical tools to spend one day with him, so he could see what they have become. Things go awry with the spell, causing the boys to summon only their father’s legs. On a quest to complete the spell, the boys find creative ways to connect with their father. This film addresses how families deal with loss of a loved one, and how they come to rely on each other to make up for that absence.

9. 101 Dalmatians – Pongo
No dog’s better than Dad.
Pongo is an incredibly loving and doting father to his 15 puppies, who greatly admire him. When the puppies are kidnapped, Pongo leads a perilous journey to return them home. He demonstrates intelligence and stealth to outsmart the malicious Cruella. If that wasn’t enough to make Pongo father of the year, he also adopts 84 MORE dalmatian puppies along the way, making this a great Disney movie to celebrate dads on Father’s Day.
8. Hercules – Zeus
A true hero isn’t measured by the size of his strength, but by the strength of his heart.
When Hercules is an infant, Zeus beams with pride as a new father. While fiercely protective, Zeus is a cheerful and adoring father to his son. He is devastated when Hercules is stolen and turned mortal but understands his son will be safe and well-cared for in his mortal family’s home. Once Hercules is grown, Zeus encourages and guides him on his path to become a true hero.
7. Princess and the Frog – James
Never, ever lose sight of what’s really important.
Tiana’s father was a hard-working family man who dreamed of one day owning his own restaurant. This dream was never realized, however, as James had to work long hours at his job to provide for his family. Despite his fatigue, he never let it affect his relationship with his daughter, who he always greeted with a smile and embrace. James taught Tiana to work hard to get what she wanted in life, but to also never lose sight of what is really important – love.

The greatest gift and honor is having you as a daughter.
Fa Zhou is serene, wise, and incredibly supportive of his daughter. After Mulan’s unfortunate appointment with the Matchmaker, Fa Zhou encourages her by indicating that the most beautiful flower is often the one that blooms late. Fa Zhou and Mulan respect each other deeply. Because of their strong relationship, Mulan secretly leaves in the night to take her father’s place when he is called to war.

5. The Little Mermaid – King Triton
She really does love him…Then I guess there is just one problem left – How much I’m going to miss her.
King Triton is a severe, but caring father. The scene when he angrily blows up Ariel’s statue is downright TERRIFYING! But it is clear his overprotective and strict nature stems from his desire to protect his family from the dangerous human world. His great love for Ariel is evident when he sacrifices himself to take her place as one of Ursula’s servants. King Triton faces the reality that you can only protect your children for so long. Eventually, there comes a time when we must let our children go live their own lives.

4. The Incredibles 2 – Bob Parr
I’m doing the math, I’m fixing the boyfriend, and keeping the baby from turning into a flaming monster. How do I do it? By rolling with the punches, baby!
Bob Parr fiercely loves his wife and kids. While Bob already exhibits he is a great father in the first Incredibles film, his fatherhood skills really shine in Incredibles 2. With Mom away focusing on a new career, Bob must learn his new duties as a stay-at-home dad. Relearning math, navigating teenage drama, and keeping up with an infant (exhibiting SUPER POWERS!) makes Bob a SUPER dad in this sequel.
3. A Goofy Movie – Goofy
You’re my son, Max. No matter how big you get, you’ll always be my son.
This is one of our favorites! You won’t find a more adoring father than Goofy. He does everything he can to ensure his son’s happiness. Goofy has a genuine heart, however, he seems to forget that Max is growing up, which causes tension between them. This movie is a wonderful story of a father and teenage son reconnecting on a cross country fishing trip.

When Nemo is taken, Marlin exhibits strength, determination, and courage as he crosses the ocean to get him back. Through his journey, Marlin learns that sometimes you need to let your children go, so they can have their own adventure in life.

Whenever you feel alone, just remember that those kings will always be there to guide you. And so will I.
Get ready to grab those tissues for this one. Mufasa is a loving and playful father to Simba. He is also wise, patient, and fiercely protective of his son. Mufasa teaches Simba that we must respect all creatures for there to be balance in the circle of life. Ultimately, Mufasa sacrifices himself to save his son.
