Tangled Themed Dinner

This week, we enjoyed a special themed dinner inspired by Tangled!

Tangled is Disney’s take on the classic fairytale of Rapunzel.  Hidden away in a tower her entire life, Rapunzel dreams of one day leaving to see the world.  When her opportunity arrives, she seizes the moment, and adventure ensues!

Tangled is a favorite in our home.  With plenty of laughs, catchy musical numbers, touching moments, and lovable characters – there is something for everyone to enjoy.

Our Tangled dinner menu was inspired by food that appears in the film as well as Rapunzel’s long, golden locks.  Since her hair plays a pivotal role in the film, I wanted to make sure to feature it on our Tangled dinner menu too!

So, grab a frying pan and a traveling companion, and join us on our Tangled dinner adventure!

Rapunzel’s Angel Hair Pasta and Braided Breadsticks

As I mentioned before, Rapunzel has incredibly long, blonde hair.  This proves to be both a burden and a blessing as she embarks on her journey.  To emulate her incredible tresses, I decided to make Angel Hair Pasta with Braided Breadsticks.

I used a recipe for Angel Hair Pasta with Garlic, Herbs, & Parmesan I found over at Effortless Foodie.

As I was making the pasta, my five-year-old immediately noted that it looked a lot like Rapunzel’s hair.  I told her that was exactly what I was going for!

The pasta dish was simple, yet tasty, and a hit with the family.

Our Braided Breadsticks referenced Rapunzel’s braided hairstyle which allowed her more freedom of movement while exploring the Kingdom of Corona.  These were super simple to make.  Using a roll of crescent dough, I was able to make two large breadsticks big enough to share.  After unrolling the dough, I pinched the seams together and then cut the dough into three long strips.  Then, I braided them together and pinched the tops and bottoms of each breadstick together to secure.

You can bake the breadsticks as they are or add some enhancements if you prefer.  I brushed some melted butter on ours and sprinkled chopped garlic, parsley, basil, and parmesan on top before baking.  They were delicious!

Mother Gothel’s Hazelnut Soup

This was the dish I was most excited to try from the movie!  I had never heard of hazelnut soup before seeing Tangled, and (according to Mother Gothel) it’s Rapunzel’s favorite.  All we really know about the soup is Mother Gothel needs parsnips to prepare it.

“I brought back parsnips. I’m going to make hazelnut soup for dinner – your favorite. Surprise!”

I searched the internet and found many different interpretations of this recipe, but the most promising one came from Feast of Fiction.  What I liked about their recipe is they prepare a hazelnut milk for the soup, rather than just using hazelnuts as a garnish.  I feel like this technique really infused the soup with great hazelnut flavor and created a creamy texture.

This soup recipe was AWESOME!  I can see why it’s Rapunzel’s favorite.  While the recipe was a bit labor intensive, the complex flavors and luscious texture made it absolutely worth it!

Maximus’s Apples and Pascal’s Fruit Cups

For our healthy side, I was inspired by the favorite foods of Maximus and Pascal.

Maximus is a horse, so it makes perfect sense that he loves apples.  Maximus enjoys this snack several times throughout the film, so I knew it would be the perfect addition to our Tangled dinner menu.

At the end of the film, we also see young girls feeding Pascal oranges and grapes.  They are delighted as he changes his colors to match each piece of fruit.   So, I incorporated grapes and oranges by serving them in a fruit cup painted with the kingdom’s sun symbol.

Frying Pan Chocolate Chip Cookie and Attila’s Sublime Cupcakes

For our Tangled dinner dessert, I was inspired by the chocolate chip cookies Rapunzel bakes in the beginning of the film.  And because frying pans are the surprisingly effective weapon of choice throughout the film, I decided to use one to bake our cookie!

Having never baked with a skillet before, I decided to use a recipe to avoid any errors.  Over at Frosting & Fettuccine I found a Chocolate Chip Cookie Skillet recipe which was fantastic!  I also topped our cookie off with a powdered sugar stencil of the sun symbol to make it uniquely Tangled.  I was very happy with the result!

“Frying pans – who knew, right?!”

While I thought I had my dessert locked down, my clever 5-year-old pointed out another great option.   “You know what else you could do?  You could make cupcakes like that one guy!”

Attila and his tray of cupcakes from Tangled movie
“Attila’s cupcakes are sublime”

I instantly knew she was referring to Attila, the “thug” who was secretly a gifted baker.  Why didn’t I think of that?!  I had to give the girl props for her bright idea.  So, when I got done with work the day of our dinner, I rushed to the store to buy cupcakes and cherries to top them off – just like Attila!

I can’t say if these store-bought cupcakes were as “sublime” as Attila’s, but the kids were thrilled to have them represented on our Tangled dinner menu.  And yes, I will acknowledge I definitely spoiled my kids with TWO desserts for our Tangled dinner!  But it was worth it.

“Best. Day. Ever!”

I hope you enjoyed reading about our Tangled Themed Dinner.  Enjoying foods from the film is a great way to immerse yourself in the story, and this was definitely a movie night to remember!

Is there a way to get the label with just the border and no picture? I’d love to create a couple additional ones with Flynn, etc.

Unfortunately I don’t have the blank food labels saved without characters, but I use Canva to create all my menus and food labels. If you head to canva.com, you can create a free account and easily replicate the design or make it even better!
