KPop Demon Hunters Themed Dinner

KPop Demon Hunters fandom has been sweeping the nation, and my family is no exception. The story, characters, and (best of all) music have made this one of our favorite films to enjoy together. So, I created a KPop Demon Hunters themed dinner to take our next movie night up a notch.

KPop Demon Hunters pre-show dinner

I’ll be honest, when I first saw Netflix advertise this movie, I thought the concept seemed silly. Pop idols slaying demons? I think I’ll pass.

But when I learned adults my age were obsessing over the movie as much as the kids, we had to see what the fuss was about. And boy, was I wrong about dismissing it!

After our first viewing, we were all hooked. We were watching KPop Demon Hunters on repeat, and jamming to the soundtrack in between viewings. The movie keeps audiences engaged with its electrifying music, relatable characters, stunning visuals, and moving storyline.

Creating the menu for our KPop Demon Hunters dinner was a lot of fun. Whether they’re gearing up for a big show, taking down demons, or enjoying much-needed couch time – our favorite demon hunters love their food. So, there were plenty of snacks in the film to get inspired by. Particularly popular dishes from the film’s setting in South Korea.

All these girls really want is some couch time with their favorite snacks – how relatable is that?!

I love trying foods from around the world, so I was excited to create a menu inspired by Korean cuisine for our KPop Demon Hunters dinner. As I always say, one of the best ways to learn about another culture is by appreciating its food!

To immerse the kids in the world of KPop Demon Hunters, I made several printable designs for our dinner as well as printable food labels.

Zoey’s Shrimp Crackers

In the very beginning of the film, we see Rumi, Mira, and Zoey gear up for a big concert by enjoying a pre-show feast of their favorite foods.

Pre-show snacks

Zoey’s preferred snack was a bag of shrimp crackers, so I made it my mission to find them for our dinner!

I hit up a few Asian markets in town searching for shrimp crackers, but I unfortunately struck out. However, I was able to order Nongshim Shrimp Crackers from Amazon! They looked just like the crackers in the movie and came in three different flavors: Original, Spicy, and Gochujang.

Zoey’s joy quickly turns to blistering fury when she discovers demons were interrupting their pre-show snacking. So, I thought it would be fun to recreate this scene with my daughter angrily clutching her shrimp crackers.

Angry Zoey face
“Why do they always interrupt our snacking?”
“THEY WILL FACE MY WRATH!”

I also recreated Zoey’s adorable towel look by following a tutorial from Your Korean Dad. I can tell this will be a new bath time tradition for the foreseeable future!

Rumi’s Kimbap

Kimbap (also known as gimbap) is another popular Korean snack featured in the movie. We see Rumi shove an entire roll in her mouth in one go, so it must be good!

Kimbap is prepared with cooked rice, vegetables, and other savory ingredients rolled in seaweed, then sliced into bite-sized pieces. Because this dish is so heavily featured in KPop Demon Hunters, I knew we had to have it on our dinner menu. But, I had very little faith I’d be able to execute the precise technique for a successful kimbap roll.

Luckily, I found it on the menu at a local Korean restaurant. Leaving the preparation of this dish to the professionals was an immense relief!

The kimbap was made with seasoned spinach, carrot, pickled radish, egg, fish cake, and spam. It was delicious!

Mira’s Pre-Show Ramyeon

Ramyeon is arguably the most prevalent food reference in KPop Demon Hunters. During their pre-show carb-loading, we see the girls each have their own personalized cup of noodles modeled after them with unique flavors.

The noodles in the film were inspired by Nongshim’s Shin Ramyum, a popular Korean instant noodle brand. The success of the film even sparked a partnership with Nongshim to create a limited-edition KPop Demon Hunters ramyeon set. So, of course, I had to purchase it for our themed dinner! I’ve seen it available at Walmart and Aldi.

The Nongshim ramyeon was a little too spicy for my younger kids, so I also picked up two other ramen flavors from Aldi. There were three different flavors in the movie, so it made sense to also have a variety for our dinner!

At the time of our dinner, the KPop Demon Hunters ramyeon was only available in packages, not noodle cups. So, I purchased the KPop Demon Hunters Stationary Sets from Walmart for the kids, and repurposed the cups for our dinner. But now, the noodle cups have finally arrived at Amazon and Walmart. So, get them while you can!

Healer Han’s Voice Tonics

When Rumi begins losing her singing voice, Zoey brings her to Healer Han who prescribes her voice tonics.

We find out later, these “healing” voice tonics are nonother than rebranded pouches of grape juice. So, for our voice tonics, I created printable Healer Han labels to fit pouches of Capri Sun and applesauce.

I adhered the labels to our pouches with a thin layer of Mod Podge. It worked great, and the kids thought the voice tonic pouches were a riot!

KPop Popcorn

The popcorn scene in KPop Demon Hunters is…quite silly. Too silly to describe in this post. If you’ve seen the movie, you will immediately get it. But regardless, popcorn is an essential component of movie nights, so here we are!

I created KPop Demon Hunters popcorn boxes to serve our popcorn in. First, I ordered pink and white striped popcorn boxes from Amazon. Then, I created a printable label of *that* scene, and used Mod Podge once again to adhere it to the box.

They turned out really cute!

Saja Boys’ Soda Pop

The Saja Boys (a demon boy band) make their debut singing the popular song, “Soda Pop.” So, of course, we had to serve a selection of sodas with our dinner. This menu practically writes itself!

My kids are crazy about Poppi, so we picked up a variety of flavors to choose from. Then, I attached my printable Saja Boys soda pop labels with Mod Podge.

I handed the sodas out during “Soda Pop,” and the kids felt like they were right there in the movie.

Jinu’s Korean Corn Dogs

While the Saja Boys are playing nice to the crowd, we see Jinu handing out corn dogs to the adoring fans.

This Korean street food (referred to as “hot dogs”) is unique to the corn dogs we have in the states. Fillings may consist of hot dogs, mozzarella cheese, fish or rice cakes. The batter also differs in that it’s made with flour and yeast, yielding a lighter and chewier dough. Coated with panko, these corndogs may also be topped with diced potatoes, crushed ramen noodles, or other crunchy ingredients.

This all sounded so delicious, so I wanted to give the kids a taste of authentic Korean corn dogs. Luckily for me, the same restaurant serving kimbap also had Korean Corn Dogs on the menu!

These were potato-crusted corn dogs filled with melty cheese and fish sausage, then drizzled with ketchup and mayo. I’m glad I trusted the professionals with this dish, because they were fantastic!

I hope you enjoyed our KPop Demon Hunters themed dinner! Creating this menu was a great way to introduce myself and my family to new foods. The Korean dishes we sampled were delicious, and I can’t wait to explore more Korean cuisine in the future!
