Tips for Sending Postcards from Walt Disney World

Are you heading to Disney, and wishing to send some Disney magic home to a loved one?  Or maybe you’d just like a fun keepsake to chronicle your vacation?  Then consider sending postcards from Walt Disney World!

In this digital age, mailing postcards seems to be a lost art.  I, for one, don’t want to see this tradition fade away.  So, we are revitalizing the practice – starting at Walt Disney World!

Sending postcards during your Disney vacation is a great way to let loved ones know you’re thinking of them.  And because receiving postcards is less common, your recipient will surely be surprised and delighted when they open their mailbox!

Another option is to mail postcards to yourself.  We started this tradition in 2015 when we were still a family of three.  It was a fun way to record the adventures of each day, and the postcards made a wonderful keepsake from our trip.  Not to mention, they gave us something to look forward to once we arrived home!  Sending yourself postcards is a great practice to help combat those dreaded Disney Blues.

If you would like to start your own tradition of sending postcards from Disney, here are a few tips to get you started!

Where to Purchase Disney Postcards

You can typically purchase Disney-themed postcards at the resort gift shops or Disney Springs.

During our most recent trip, we picked up a collection of 10 postcards from World of Disney in Disney Springs.  I also found single postcards available for purchase at our Hilton’s gift shop – many of which were Disney themed!

However, finding postcards at these locations is not guaranteed, as merchandise offerings constantly change.  If you don’t want to worry about hunting down postcards while on vacation, consider ordering some from Amazon instead!

Postage stamps are also available at various gift shops per Disney’s mail services, and some have cute Disney themes! 

Where to Mail Disney Postcards

You can almost always ask the front desk team at your resort to drop your postcards in the mail.  But it’s extra fun when you can mail your postcards right from the Disney theme parks!

During our last visit, located mailboxes in each of the theme parks, as well as Disney Springs.

These mailboxes contain a sign that reads as follows:

This is a Turn of the Century Mail Collection Box loaned by the United States Postal Service

Mail is collected daily from this box by WALT DISNEY WORLD cast members for entry into the United States Mails at Orlando, Florida.

So official!  The only downside to mailing from the parks, however, is those postcards may take a little longer to arrive at their destinations.  But I think it’s extra special to use the theme park mailboxes, then your magic mail is circulated right there in Walt Disney World!

In Magic Kingdom, you will find a mailbox right outside Main Street’s City Hall.  Be sure to stop in City Hall for some extra magic before mailing (more on that later)!

To send mail from EPCOT, head to the American Adventure pavilion in World Showcase.

Animal Kingdom and Hollywood Studios also have mailboxes at their park entrances near Guest Relations. 

And if you find yourself in Disney Springs, you can drop your postcards in the mailbox outside World of Disney.

Adding Extra Disney Magic to Your Postcards

There are a couple ways to make sending postcards from Disney extra magical.  My favorite takes place at City Hall in Magic Kingdom.  Here, cast members have a rubber stamp to officialize your postcard and signify it was mailed from Walt Disney World!  Once stamped, you can step outside and drop it in the mail collection box.

You could also add some fun Disney stickers to your postcard.  Cast members always seem to have a collection of stickers on hand to disperse to the children of Walt Disney World.  We always accumulate quite the collection!  Consider letting your child use some of those stickers to decorate and personalize your postcard.

Another fun way to add Disney magic to your postcards is getting them signed by a favorite character.  Not only is this a unique way to collect autographs, it’s also a great way to commemorate that character interaction and make the postcard even more special.
