Top 10 Disney Couples
In anticipation of Valentine’s Day, we are counting down our Top 10 Disney Couples!
Disney has created some of the most iconic love stories of all time. And those relationships have greatly evolved over the years. The “love at first sight” trope has slowly grown into more complex and nuanced onscreen relationships. To narrow down generations of Disney couples to a Top 10 really comes down to personal preference.
Do you believe in love at first sight? Or is love something that needs to be nurtured and grown over time? Is perfect love passionate, or is it about finding that special person to experience life’s highs and lows with?
Ok, enough of the philosophical questions! You can probably tell Valentine’s Day is on my brain. The takeaway here, is that everyone defines love and successful relationships differently. The Disney couples on this Top 10 list are probably vastly different than what others may have in mind. But I think we can all agree that Disney couples (no matter the trope) will always hold a special place in our hearts!
So, without further ado, here are my Top 10 Disney Couples!
10) Nani & David (Lilo & Stitch)
Nani and David are the perfect example of a friendship that grew into romance.
Nani had a lot on her plate being the sole guardian of her younger sister, Lilo. She made it clear to David early on she was not ready for a relationship, and he respected her wishes. And despite his disappointment, he remained an incredibly supportive and reliable friend to Nani and Lilo.
It was hard for Nani to let herself fall for David, as Lilo’s needs were her priority. But through patience and understanding, romance and deep affection blossomed between the two.
9) Jessica & Roger Rabbit (Who Framed Roger Rabbit)
I bet you’re surprised to see these two on this Top 10 Disney Couples list! I love this unlikely duo. Roger lives to make his wife laugh and describes her as the light of his life. But in Who Framed Roger Rabbit, you are led to doubt if Jessica Rabbit’s devotion to her husband is genuine.
But as the mystery unfurls, Jessica proves herself to be fiercely loyal and protective of Roger. She faces many dangerous situations to prove his innocence. And when they are happily reunited, she tells him she’s going to make him a carrot cake. Now that’s love!
8) Queen Elinor & King Fergus (Brave)
I just love this couple, and feel they are very underrated. Not only do they run a kingdom together, but they also care for their rebellious teenager and unruly triplets. They clearly have a lot on their plate!
Queen Elinor is wise and resolute, while King Fergus is easygoing and fun-loving. Despite their differences, they make a great team when overcoming obstacles. They listen to and support one another. And most importantly, they remember to have fun with each other!
They are a great example of two contrasting personalities bringing out the best in each other.
7) Bob & Helen Parr (The Incredibles)
Bob and Helen are a super team. Not only do they fight evildoers and frequently save the world, but they also raise three children with superpowers of their own!
But despite all these challenges, they have managed to find a perfect balance in life for their careers, family, and each other. Bob and Helen are very dedicated to each other and aren’t afraid to make sacrifices for their family. They have even taken turns at being a stay-at-home parent to support each other’s careers. Their ability to put each other’s needs first makes them a great Disney couple.
6) Anna & Kristoff (Frozen)
“You can’t marry a man you just met.” Such a great quote from Frozen poking fun at early Disney romances, and so true! When Anna first meets Prince Hans, she is convinced it’s love at first sight and insists upon their marriage. But it isn’t until later we realize Hans is the true villain of the story.
Kristoff, on the other hand, gets to know Anna over time. He supports Anna in her endeavors and even rushes her to Hans for a true love’s kiss despite caring for her himself.
We see the love between these two characters grow throughout the films and shorts. And despite the many obstacles they have faced, they prove to be an incredibly supportive and caring couple.
5) Belle & Beast (Beauty and the Beast)
Talk about a rocky start to a relationship! While Belle technically was the Beast’s prisoner in the beginning of the film, she learns over time he has a kind and caring heart. Two people who once felt like outcasts, were finally able to find companionship which later grew into love.
Beast released Belle to care for her father, knowing that his curse would never be broken in doing so. But when Belle learned the Beast was in danger, she fought to protect him, and broke the spell he was under.
These sacrifices Belle and the Beast made speak volumes to the amount of respect and admiration they feel for one another.
4) Tiana & Naveen (The Princess and the Frog)
Hardworking Tiana and carefree Naveen were anything but love at first sight. But a voodoo curse forced them to set aside their differences and work toward a common goal. Through the course of their adventure, they taught each other valuable lessons – Naveen learned that hard work leads to a sense of accomplishment, and Tiana learned it’s ok to have fun and let herself find love.
As their love grew, Tiana and Naveen cast aside their own personal desires so that each may achieve their dreams. But they realized that neither of their dreams would be complete without each other.
Their love brought out the best in each other and broke their curse so they could begin a life together.
3) Rapunzel & Eugene (Tangled)
I just love the chemistry between these two. Eugene’s wannabe-bad-boy demeanor contrasted with Rapunzel’s innocent yet determined personality is so fun to watch.
Through their adventures, they formed a friendship built on trust. With every obstacle they encountered, they looked after each other and made a great team. They also confided in each other about their pasts, which led to a deep level of understanding and respect for one another.
Eugene ultimately sacrificed his life for Rapunzel to save her from the evil Mother Gothel. But Rapunzel was able to save him, and they fulfilled their dream of sharing a life together.
2) Carl & Ellie (Up)
The first ten minutes of Up depicts the moving love story between Carl and Ellie. What began as childhood friendship grew into a lifetime of love and devotion to one another. We see the joys and heartbreaks they experienced in their marriage. And despite the hardships they faced, they exhibited unwavering love for each other.
Carl’s love for Ellie endured long after her passing. He never let go of her dream to find adventure in South America and was his driving force as he made the journey to keep her memory alive.
1) Mickey & Minnie
And of course, the sweethearts that top our Top 10 Disney Couples list are nonother than Mickey and Minnie! These two have been together almost 100 years and are still going strong.
They are the very best of friends and treasure each other endlessly. They also embrace each other’s quirks and complement one another’s personality. And despite the many villainous attempts by Pete and Mortimer Mouse, nothing has separated the two.
Mickey and Minnie are the foundation of everything we love about Disney films, music, and the theme parks. They are without a doubt, the best Disney couple!
