Oliver and Company Themed Dinner Night
This week, our themed Disney Dinner is inspired by the animated classic, Oliver and Company! This film is loosely based on the story of Oliver Twist and features a lost kitten who joins up with a gang of dogs in New York City. My kids love this movie because it features fun musical numbers, lovable furry friends, and the great city of New York!
Not only did we enjoy watching Oliver and Company with this themed dinner, but we also started the evening out by watching a doggie dock diving competition at our local sports store. The kids enjoyed watching the “dock dogs” show off their jumping skills before ending with a big SPLASH in the water. It was a fun way to celebrate our doggie pals before our movie night.
I have also included some dog treat recipes from Disney chefs at the end of this article. Bake up some of these treats for your furry friend to include them in this Oliver and Company Themed Dinner!
Dodger’s Street Vendor Hot Dogs
Early in the film, we see Oliver (a kitten) team up with a street-smart dog named Dodger to steal hot dogs from a street vendor. New York City is famous for their hot dog carts, which made hot dogs a great entrée for our Oliver and Company Themed Dinner! My kids LOVE hot dogs, so I knew there would be no issues getting them to finish their dinner. My husband threw the hot dogs on the grill while I gathered all the necessary condiments: ketchup, mustard, relish, and chopped onions. I don’t typically eat hot dogs, but these were delicious!
The “Big Apple” Slices and Fruit Dip
For our side dish, I again took inspiration from “The Big Apple” and served apple slices with dip. I found this great recipe from Salty Side Dish for Peanut Butter Yogurt Fruit Dip. This dip was easy to prepare, healthy, and – most importantly – very tasty! I tossed a few chocolate chips on top to resemble the cat food concoction Jenny prepared for Oliver in the film. This was a big hit for the kids and a recipe I would definitely make again.
Puppy Chow Snack Mix
For our movie snack, I wanted to create a puppy themed snack mix. I threw together some kettle corn, puppy chow, and Scooby Snacks for the kids to enjoy. This was something very quick and easy to toss together. If you have never made puppy chow before, here is a great recipe from Lil Luna!
Jenny’s Birthday Cupcakes
And to end our meal – dessert! I, of course, took inspiration from Jenny’s pink birthday cake at the end of the film. Rather than make a cake, I made some cupcakes decorated with pink and blue frosting like in the film. For my cupcakes, I found a wonderful recipe from A Bajillian Recipes for Pink Champagne Cupcakes. These cupcakes were soft and moist, and I was very happy with how they turned out! The kids were thrilled to end the night with a special treat inspired by the movie.
Dog Treats from Disney Chefs!
As promised, here are some dog treat recipes from Disney Chefs! These recipes can be found over at the Disney Parks Blog and include Peanut Butter, Bacon, Banana Biscuits and Oatmeal, Parmesan Biscuits. What better way to show your dog you love them than to make them a special treat?!
