Great-Grandma Carmella’s Classic Marinara Recipe
Today I am going to share my most treasured family recipe, my Great-Grandma Carmella’s Classic Marinara! My Grandma was born in Naples, Italy, immigrating to the United States when she was 2 years old. I love to embrace my Italian heritage, and preparing this sauce makes me feel connected to my Grandma and her Italian traditions.
My Grandma was famous in her time for organizing HUGE spaghetti feeds for her community, and supplying her prized sauce recipes to local Italian restaurants. She was a giver! So in the spirit of her giving, I am excited to share her Classic Marinara Recipe with you today.
Warning: Preparing this sauce will make your house smell ABSOLUTELY AMAZING! This classic marinara tastes the best slowly simmered over several hours. It will be hard to wait for the final product…but oh so worth it!
I love to make big batches of this classic marinara, and freeze the extra for later use. I also like to add some browed Italian sausage to the sauce or homemade meatballs (see my Grandma’s Italian Meatball Recipe HERE). Serve this classic marinara sauce on spaghetti (or any pasta of choice), lasagna, or even pizza!
Check out how we used this recipe for our Lady and the Tramp themed dinner HERE or our Toy Story Pizza Party HERE!
