Snow White Themed Dinner
This week’s Disney Dinner was themed to Walt Disney’s first animated feature film – Snow White!
As the weather cools, apples are ready for picking, and fall approaches. What better time to enjoy a Snow White themed dinner?
Seeing as how Snow White takes place in Germany, our menu featured traditional German dishes alongside the star of the film – apples!

Snow White Dinner Menu
As I mentioned before, our Snow White dinner menu was inspired by traditional German cuisine. Our region has a lot of German influence due to the large number of immigrants who settled here in the 1880s. So, we are no strangers to most of these dishes!
Incorporating German culture into our dinner was a good learning experience for the kids, and a fun way to observe the upcoming Oktoberfest celebrations!
Bratwurst and Sauerkraut
The first German entrée for our Snow White dinner was bratwurst and sauerkraut. This dish is very popular during Oktoberfest celebrations in Munich, Germany.
My husband cooked the brats on the grill, while I prepared a platter with sauerkraut and chopped apples.
You can’t go wrong with brats in our house, so there were plenty of smiling faces around the table. And surprisingly, my toddler was a big fan of the sauerkraut as well!
German Goulash
Goulash is another German dish that is popular in our area, but our version is completely different than what you find in Germany.
Our goulash is basically a hotdish made with hamburger, macaroni noodles, and a tomato sauce. Authentic goulash, on the other hand, is a stew made with meat and vegetables, and seasoned with paprika.
To make our German Goulash, I used a recipe I found from Craft Beering. This recipe uses beef, onions, potatoes, Hungarian paprika, and a dark German lager to develop rich flavors.
I used Spaten Oktoberfest Ur Märzen as our lager, which is an official beer of Oktoberfest! And for those hesitant to cook with alcohol – don’t worry – the alcohol cooks out of the stew when it’s ready to eat.
The stew was delicious, and I think it tasted even better the next day. This will be a great cozy recipe to make again in the fall!
Nudel Gratin
Our next entrée is a popular dish from Disney World found at EPCOT’s Germany Pavilion – nudel gratin! Guests of EPCOT will find nudel gratin at the Oktoberfest-themed restaurant, Biergarten. But those who want to make the dish at home can find the recipe at Disney Parks Blog.
I love bringing a taste of Walt Disney World home whenever possible, so I was really excited to test this recipe out.
Nudel gratin is essentially baked mac-and-cheese made with Swiss and cheddar cheeses plus a pinch of white pepper and nutmeg. This dish was super simple to make and kid-friendly.
I can’t say whether or not this dish is truly authentic to Germany, but it was a delicious addition to our Snow White dinner.
Mini Apple Pies
For dessert, we enjoyed mini apple pies I made using a recipe from Just a Taste.
I first used this Muffin Tin Mini Apple Pies recipe for our Snow White Tea Party. They turned out great the first time around, so I decided to use it again for our Snow White dinner.
Some of our mini pies had “poisoned apple” crusts while others had a classic lattice pattern. They turned out just as tasty as I remembered!
Not-So-Poisoned Apple Cider
And to cap off our dinner, I made a batch of Not-So-Poisoned Apple Cider. My suspicious six-year-old kept asking if I was sure the cider wasn’t poisoned.
Here is my quick apple cider recipe I whipped up:
- 1 jug apple juice
- ½ apple, sliced
- ¼ cup brown sugar
- 2 cinnamon sticks
- 1 tsp allspice
- 1/8 tsp each of ginger, clove, and nutmeg
See? Poison free!
I combined all the ingredients in a pot on the stove and let simmer for about 30min.
This was a new method of preparing apple cider for me, but it was a raging success! After her first sip, my six-year-old walked right over to me, looked me in the eye, and said “Mom, this is the BEST cider I’ve EVER tasted.”
She proceeded to give me a hug, a kiss, and three high fives throughout the night to emphasize her feelings. This surge of love was most likely caused by the extra sugar, but I’ll take it anyway 😉
